...with this year's weather and all the flooding, the prairie folks in Canada now also have some truly awe inspiring beaches.

Southern Hemisphere! Freezing!......I'll just give this one a miss but will look forward to seeing the creative images Non- Americans can come up with :)

No one said the beach can't be snow covered. :)

speaking as a programmer, I don't know how one would code that.

Seriously? It takes CODING to have a challenge run from 01/01/2015 to 12/31/2015?

Yeah - ??? - He just needs to put in the dates. OR we could just do a week long "Best Local Holiday Photo of the Past Year" challenge and have the date requirements for validation be the same as they were for "Best of 2013" for example.
i guess I misunderstood how this would be voted.

+1

That would be awesome

I WOULD have had some decent fireworks shots for the challenge, but when they started, I realized to my dismay that they were not shooting off where I thought they would, and instead I was right behind a light pole. Better luck next year, I guess...

Where did you see a "Speed Fireworks Challenge"? I see "4th of July Celebrations" and it does not require fireworks. And what happened to Canada Day anyway?

The thread predates the challenge: It was PROPOSED as a speed challenge for fireworks and morphed into a 4th of July Celebration challenge.

i appreciate the sentiment Bear, and i thought that i had brought it up sufficiently early. i'll make sure to bring it up much earlier next year.
And despite being the most active (seemingly at least), you're not the only one around.

i think the 1/1->12/31 challenge is a bit of a stretch, and i know that there are national holidays around the world all the time, but given the 3 day span between july 1/4, there's no reason there couldn't be a singular week-long challenge that would run in time for us canucks to actually shoot at our celebration, while also allowing our southern neighbors to do the same.
i don't hold anybody here accountable, it's not any 1 person's fault outside of the one who decides which challenge will run, and if the person doing that isn't paying attention, then maybe they should allow others to fill that role as well.

Seeing as it is possible that not all countries celebrate their holidays with fireworks, why not just make it a "national holiday" challenge of whatever country then celebrating? Then "fireworks" could be just another specific-theme challenge such as icebergs, fjords, tundra...

I wonder if there's any precedent for having a challenge that's open for an entire calendar year? We could call it "National Day of Celebration" and everybody could shoot their own festival when it occurs, then we could vote them all up against each other... Does that sound like fun?

Most definitely would garner a YES vote from me.

The added bonus is that we would be given the opportunity to learn about other DPC members, where they live, their customs, etc.

Great idea Bear,

...Absolutely right, but when one considers that the USA centric theme has been brought to the fore on other occasions, and bearing in mind that the Canada Day theme was discussed in the past and mentioned again this year prior to the event... I am certain that you can appreciate why why I would feel such frustration at this juncture.

I fully appreciate my friend Bear_Music's efforts to rectify the situation, but that does NADA to assuage the level of frustration I feel at this very moment.

I think this is a great solution.
