Oooooh!!! I'm so glad you guys have been talking about fan boat tours -- I really really want to done own of these.

Again - probably my one time only opportunity.

Are all fanboat tours the same? What is the ultimate fan boat tour? Which one should we be doing? Do we need to be going deep into the everglades? Is near the headwaters the same experience?

What is my ultimate fanboat experience -- because I've really always wanted to do this... :)

(and how many children do you lose in the process?)

On the one that Waddy made arrangements for us. We were out for about an hour and 15 min to and hour and a half. Most tours are about 45-1 hour long. They guy that took us out knew we were looking for photo ops and all we had to do was hold up our hand/arm and he would pause so we could take pictures. We saw gators (100's of them...NO exaggeration), rosette spoonbills (depends on time of year...April should still be good), Herons, Black-crown Night Herons, Stilt birds (not sure of the actual name of the bird), Little Blue Herons, Tri-color Herons, Great White Egrets, Cattle Egrets, Eagle(s) (we saw one), Hawks...this is what I saw (and can remember) from ONE trip...Wendy...you'll be in heaven!!! There is NO time to change lens so you have to choose one for the whole trip.

As to the lost children...all depends...on how many you want to take home with you....lol

I know of an airboat company on Lake Trafford (Near Waddy Thompson - MelonMusketeer) he can make amazing arrangements with the owners there. And it's near Florida Panther/Everglades/Big Cypress National Parks (don't forget Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary)...all of these would/are be high on my list. They are all very, very close together and pretty easy to explore.

Oh, Waddy's a blast - honestly a great guy. If you can do a GTG with him, I would recommend it. (Marko et.al. aren't too bad either.. ;) )..

I want to say thank you to Wendy for starting this post and to everyone who posted places to go and things to do. I'm now booked to go to Port St. Lucie from April 6th to the 16th. This thread started the planning for me! I can't wait...oh if I have a crappy time I'll hold each and everyone of you responsible for that too! I don't think there is any need to worry! Lol!

Thanks again!

It's too late for the delete button! I'm flying into Fort Lauderdale. I'll send you a pm when I know more. I'd love to hear about the places and I'm happy to hear that it's a great location. I want to rent a kayak for a day, go on an airboat ride and find some wildlife. Thanks Janine!

Probably one of the finest vacation days I have ever spent in my entire life wa a day spent with Waddy MelonMusketeer as my host and tour guide. He would be an enjoyable fellow just to sit with in a coffee shop shooting the breeze all morning, but when he shows you his lovely corner of the world, it's a totally memorable experience.

He picked me up at the crack of dawn, and showed me his Florida *ALL* day long. Brought me back exhausted, grinning form ear to ear, and a memory card full of, well.......memories.

Lord, what is this...is there going to be anyone up North in the next wk or so....just remember...our weather isn't like this year round...you should really try it during the brutal months of Jul/Aug/Sep...when the mosquito's need landing strips and running lights.

Tracey the best places to go for airboat rides is West more towards the Everglades or Southwestern Florida, the one that I know about and HIGHLY recommend is on Lake Trafford, now this is also in Waddy's back yard...and like Jeb said...he's the very best!!!

There's a boat load of stuff to do in Miami...don't forget that...Fairchild Botanical Gardens (stunning) OH and don't forget Cape Florida Lighthouse here's better images and I want to visit this place too...Ancient Spanish Monastery

Ck out the Orchid Society in Delray Beach right next to that is a great Japanese Gardens we (well...my family) did kayaking at John D MacArthur it's just north of West Palm Beach....oh, and good stroll down Worth Avenue is really interesting...lots of photo opps there...quaint shops and ally ways etc...good street work.

alright enough overload...anyone else???
