I would use a bad word that starts with "f" but that seems impolite. I really really really suck of late, and not in a good way. Good thing I did all my commenting before turning on my scores. I think I'll wait to continue voting until tomorrow. |

REALLY happy, and when I woke up at 19 votes, that fave was there......dunno if I *ever* had a fave this early! |
Know what you mean... also had the favourite early... nice change. As is the generosity. :)

ya, hear ya.....
Why do people look but not vote? It takes just as much time.......

Not sure about others, but I look first as I like to just see the images first without judging them, hopefully giving a more honest vote when I go through them next :). |

You can do this whether you are voting or not - if not voting just click on the arrow key to go to the next one after you have finished your comment.
(For those voting, take your time, evaluate what you've been presented, offer a fair score by whatever value system you use.)
We're all getting so caught up in crappy scores (well, except for those who aren't getting crappy scores) that we're forgetting about the other aspects of the site. |
I like this challenge Deb, I'll definitely do my best to take you up on it :) |

This is totally demoralising and totally out of character with photography, and don't come back with their just selecting their 20%, what a lot of rot. |
I SO agree! :) It is demoralizing. From what I remember of when I first started here, a 1 vote was reserved for a total DNMC, an offensive shot/blatantly in your face bad photo. Now, it's a norm to get those types of scores. It has been discussed in a lot of different ways but, people worried about 6 becoming the "new 5". Ha...well, now, it's seemingly to become that 4 is the new "5" LOL. |

Well, it is true. If no scores on 1-3 were used the scale would become 4-10, so essentially a 7 point scale. "7" would be the new average, and then all the scores from the past would be meaningless when compared to the current scores.
Give the varied ways people vote around here, I would like to see the average ranking shown for each member of the site (instead of the average score). Score means little when there is no standard. |

Not sure that I'm going to vote/score in this challenge. I might try to give out those 38 comments though, Deb. :) I think I'm a little too biased right now. Dang it...should have tried to have gotten on a DPL team. They seem to have magic charms with scores LOL.

Very true about there being "no standard" in voting and that's been discussed to death in here LOL. Not going near that again with a 10' pole! LOL
However, I wasn't advocating no 1 to 3 votes. I was saying that 1 to 3 scores are being handed out much more than they once were. 1 to 3 votes used to be considered for DNMC's or very poor photos, 4 was a below average shot, 5 was mediocre, 6 to 8 was a good shot and 9 to 10 was fabulous. Personally, I don't see any shot in most challenges worthy of a 1 or 2 vote but, then again, the different criteria by which people judge a photo is so varied that, as you've said, there is no "standard". People can vote a great photo a 1 just because they don't like bumble bees in a shot LOL |

Anyone else going to give this a try? I noticed that since DPL has started and the number of entries has skyrocketed, the number of comments has gone down a bit. |
I will eventually....will have to vote first then I'll do my commenting...might have to up you and double that number what do you say Deb? |

I feel like trolls have been around forever, like the common cold, there is no easy and quick rememdy for it, you just have to hunker down and get over it.
Trolls vote 1s and 2s indiscrimitely throughout the duration of the challenge. Given the random nature of how shots are presented in voting, and given the large number of shots, it fairly safe to assume that trolling is evenly distributed over the participants in the challenge.
You don't always have to score above a 7 to win a challenge, you just have to have a higher score than everyone else in the challenge. So in effect, the trolls are lowing the score necessary to win a challenge, and essentially hurting everyone's chances of winning equally, thus producing zero meaningful effect on the results of a challenge.
Also, not directed at anyone particular, but all the words that have been spilt in these forums complaining about trolls have only inspired them to work harder.
I shoot what I want, enter it into the challenge, and try not to let it get to me. I care much more about the comments I get anyway. Usually when my score is drowning in the gutter, there is at least one person who understood and appreciated what I saw when I took the picture. That is enough for me.
We're talking about little pictures of ribbons on a computer. Let's have some fun and not let the idiots take that away. |

I'm not in this challenge but I am a HUGE black and white fan. I just have to say that the images were awe inspiring and jaw dropping. I must have chosen about 70 favorites and if I could have voted would have given about 95 tens. Just wonderful. Thank you very much for all of the pleasing scenes. |
