I'm surprised no one has mentioned picture 6 yet (the Riderless Horse)? That one really gets me choked up, given Reagan's passion for horses and the fact that the backwards boots were the ones that he wore for years while riding.
Great job on the photos Clara.
ChrisW, you are right. They are not allowing cameras into the rotunda during the public viewing.
I wish I could make it to D.C. this week for the funeral and the viewing. Although, I was too young to vote for Reagan at the time, I was very politically aware growing up. This could not be helped, since my Mom is a political junky. She made me watch the Democratic and Republican National Conventions ('76) when I was 8.
I know that Reagan's passing was to be expected, but it has not made it any easier. He was a man of bold ideas and firm convictions, who came into the Presidency at a time of self-doubt in our grand experiment in self-government. His presence has been and will be sorely missed.

You have put into words that which I feel but can not express. My fathers era saw FDR and JFK. I will always have R. Reagan!

Opinions aside, I do want to ask that this thread be restricted to discussion of the photos presented. Please restrict any discussion about politics to the existing threads in the Rant folder, and keep this thread for the critiques of the photographs presented (and discussion of the related events themselves).
Thanks,
-Terry

Who has brought up any politics in this thread (besides yourself just now)? How can you possibly discuss the photos of the event or the event itself without eluding to the greatness of the individual in question?

I'm not saying anyone was... but the statement I quoted in my previous post has the potential to turn the discussion in that direction. My post was intended as nothing more than a note of cauton and a proactive reminder to help keep the thread on topic.

Thanks for posting those images. Very, very nice. I'm not sure my mind would be composed enough to take such well-composed pictures in that situation. A bit of camera shake in a couple of them, but really overall very artistic and moving images.

Saturday, mid afternoon, I was driving to Westwood to get some ice cream & I was stuck in traffic. I saw, ahead of me by a block or so that it was a funeral. I had no idea that it was Reagan's! I found out after seeing helicopters everywhere and turning on the a.m. radio! I didn't follow the procession for long, turning off in Westwood instead of going all the way to Santa Monica, but it looked impressive from my view behind it all.
Anyhow, later that night i took my family (visiting from FL) to see the Hollywood Walk of Fame. We stopped by Reagan's star (which was set up as a memorial).
I posted it up here if anyone wants a copy: //mirdonamy.dpcprints.com |

Basically what I did is reset the black point in PS. The image was high constrast to begin with. Plus there was a polarizer on there to try and cut the haze a bit. I found one of the darkest parts of the image and set that as the black point, which emphasized the contrast even more.
I could have used a lower contrast setting when I was processing, and gone back in and done some burning of the background. I was just tired last night, and looking for a dramatic quick fix. :)
I'm wondering if there's any interest from folks in having prints available on some of these images? Given how specific they are, I kinda need some "yes I'd buy that" feedback to work them to print size.
Any proceeds from these images will go to the Alzheimer's Association (//www.alz.org). 4.5 Million Americans suffer from Alzheimers. That statistic does not calculate how many families are destroyed by this disease.
Let me know on the prints gang!

Terrific shots, Clara. They are all very nice, but I like #3 of the man clutching the flag; #2 for being an emotional shot; and for best quality and composition, I love #7! #7 is a great shot. A little cloning of the flag pole would make it perfect, imo. Good work!

Yah, some might be technically better then others, but to me they all tell a story, a very important story. I really like them all and think you did a fabulous job taking them. Good photography isn't always about how well the shot it taken, but how well it shows the viewer what you are trying to convey.

So is the full 95 shot gallery...It's a wonderful picture story of the whole thing. Pictures changed just a tad fast for my liking though, with no way to stop it & get to admire the pictures at all.
