I don't mean to press, but do you mean you had a bad experience with Shutterfly? Or just that you've had a good experience elsewhere?

Anyone?

I have never tried the Shutterfly service. And, if by "hearsay" you mean the testing done by Consumer Reports, then you're right. I do, however, thoroughly trust the ratings of Consumer Reports. As far as Shutterly's prints go, most people would probably be satisfied with them since, as testified here, they are of comparable-to-actual film quality. In the reviews, though, the other services had more favorable ratings, and Shutterfly was the only service tested which came with a warning. That seemed to merit mention here, where photographers might be looking for a quality printing service.
Sorry if anyone was personally offended by the criticism. |

I've used Shutterfly, but it was several years ago. (So they have been in business for a while!) I received quite a few nice comments about the quality of the prints. At the time (May, 2000), there wasn't as much being done to support digital photography. The 4x6 prints are so very nice! I still proudly display them at my desk. Want to see? |

Personally, I wasn't offended at all. I was just curious if I had just been lucky with them.
I have used Consumer Reports and trust them a great deal... I love my Car, DvD, and TV which were all rated best buys... I hadn't read the warning from them and didn't even know they had a recommendation on Digital Print services. I know their dCamera ratings were a bit lacking. I'll have to log in tonight when I get home and read what they said.

I was not offended, and I hope I didn't come across too harsh. Articles like this //earthlink.com.com/2100-1023-976988.html?tag=rn tend to make me very cautious about things I say. I know this is not technically a publication, but notice the reference to a lawsuit brought over things said in a chat room. I simply don't want DPC or anyone here to get tangled up in something legally nasty over a casual comment. Your points are very valid, I think, and they are supported by a long-established consumer testing agency, so I don't think you did anything wrong. I just REALLY appreciate the fact that Shutterfly is supporting the site, and I personally feel it would be appropriate to show that appreciation by not being negative about them as long as I have no personal bad experience to validate my negativity.
Thanks for being a gentleman about it all :-) I probably will never run for public office, but trust me when I say that just because I am concerned about something does not mean I support that particular viewpoint.

Again, living outside of the USA "helps" some of us steer clear of the legal playground that sometimes occurs in the USA, or should I say, California. We have a different set of laws to guide us here, so it would be very expensive for someone to pursue action in another country, like mine. Canada is not too bad, but what about places like France, who I understand still use Napoleonic law. Or, other far off lands where physical distance from the USA is a challenge - South Africa, Australia, etc. And then, there is Japan or China, where language and cultural difference would present a major impact to litigation. I do not think that I would worry too much about legal action, unless you intend to violate the laws of the land. Just a thoughtâ€Â¦.. |

I've used shutterfly and a few others and was quite happy with them.
The only place I found that truely was terrible was dotPhoto. Their main redeeming feature was that they are very cheap.
I've been using ezprints.com recently and they are head and shoulders above the others in colour accuracy, as they are actually willing to send
calibration prints and provide colour profiles. |
