Thanks pawdrix and RKT for the examples and PM. Thanks everyone else for the help too.
I'll think more about the subject and try to think about something different and artisticaly atractive for the voters. I'm really loving this discussion and the new things i'm seeing around this Fine Art subject!
Thanks again!

This site has some great links to various fine art sites.

One. More. Time.

And go read this.

To me, the point of this challenge is to pull something from your own head and imagination, and not to copy or emulate some other photographers work. Take a chance, step away from your comfy zone. A favorite quote:

Trust that little voice in your head that says "Wouldn't it be interesting if..."; And then do it. ....Duane Michals

Make a photograph for yourself, truly for yourself, and don't think about pleasing a crowd. Show us what's in your noggin and make a photograph that isn't of something, but is something. To me, this is how art is born.

Bold is mine..."Fine Art" isn't a look or a style. 1x, or any other website for that matter, is hardly the end all and be all of fine art imagery. Go to an actual museum or gallery and poke around...or poke around your own mind and heart for a change and listen to the little voices.

Of course I have zero ideas for this challenge but within fifteen minutes after rollover I will be inundated with ideas, why is that? Pressure? Dateline to meet? I try too hard? It's been a common theme since I've joined here. grrr

That happens to me too. Plus, with working two jobs a lot of times I simply don't have time to set the shot up like I want.

It seems to me that what is being discussed/debated in this thread is "what is ART", not what is "fine art". ART is in the eye of the beholder, and a matter of taste. For some people a portrait of Elvis painted on velvet is art.

What's more significant in the term "fine art" is the word "FINE". Try this exercise:
What distinguishes FINE jewelry from ordinary jewelry? What distinguishes FINE dining from dining? I think the difference is in the nuance and originality of design and flavor and atmosphere, and the skill of the jeweler or chef.

For photography, the design and flavor are composition and light.

I think that much of what we see in every challenge would be classified somewhere as 'fine art photography'. And a lot of commercial photography (e.g. fashion and photojournalism) is also fine art photography. In photography, commercial and fine art are not mutually exclusive.

In an art museum, youâll see everything from splashes of paint (Pollock), soup can (Warhol), to geometric abstracts, impressionistic blurs, still-lifes, portraits, florals, wildlifes, landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, etc.....

This challenge is really just another Free Study.

So don't knock yourself out trying to be "artistic".

Art (see, no capitals!) is in the eye of the beholder only, if it makes a fist. And
yes, yes, do knock yourselves out, gist and pith!

A quote by Martha Graham. I read it and I'm trying to keep the thought in my head as I shoot for this challenge. (and all challenges)

âThere is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and there is only one of you in all time. This expression is unique, and if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium; and be lost. The world will not have it.

It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how it compares with other expression. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open.

No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others.â

Edit to add...not just challenges but in every picture I take.

This could be the hardest challenge topic ever. I'm idea-less.

I wouldn't bang your head too much over the distinction between "art" and "fine art." Fine Arts as a category is named to distinguish it from other arts, like Medical Arts, Culinary Arts, martial arts, etc.

So, I would say YES, knock yourself out, but NO, don't "try to be," just be.

I'm not thinking about any of that. If I like it, I'm voting it high and if I don't I'm voting it lower. And...editing doesn't bother me. Actually, I like it. Not trying to slam you or anything. I think it will be fun because there are so many different opinions about this one.

This is awesome. It should be reposted every 4 hours until this challenge is closed. This is EXACTLY the idea that motivates/informs so many of us. Thanks for sharing.

Darn. I'm occasionally pleased with a shot (not often). I'm not an artist. *sigh*

But, it just confirmed what I always suspected.
