yet another reason I like Canon :) My XTi and 17-40 F4L were completely submerged in a river for a good 90seconds and both were completely filled with water. Dried them out, took both apart and cleaned them and put them back together and they are still working great 2 years later.

90secs?

Mine was submerged, (and feared lost), in the Goulbourn River for nearly two years. After cleaning off the moss and mud I chose to micorowave it on high for 5mins in order to dry it out and it still works just as well as the day I first bought it. Beat that one! :)

Aww man, I LOVE stories like yours dk. I tried to do the same with my 5D when it took a dip, but unfortunately it was saltwater and the cleaning didn't take. It's a prop now. Did you need a spanner to get the lens open? my 24-105 was also toasted and I've always wanted to open it and potentially turn it into a bitchin pencil holder.

Nope no spanner needed, everything either just pops out or there is a little screw holding what ever you wanting to take off. :)

Good job with the lenses but need pics of the body as well or it didn't happen.

Well, my D80 was swallowed by a hippopotamus during my last trip to the zoo. I immediately alerted the zookeeper who took my name and number and promised to call when it was discharged. He kept the hippo on a high fiber diet and as he predicted, with a blinding flash, out it came in about thirty six hours. I would post the photo here but it is inappropriate for a family site. There was no need for external cleaning as the thoughtful hippo pee'd on it as it popped out. The Nikon was carefully dried of by the apprentice zookeeper using a diaper that was intended for a baby monkey. He was yelled at by his boss for useing the monkey's diaper and was so upset he mistakenly deleated the photos taken inside the hippo which, I am sure would have been worthy of the Puzzle Macro Challenge even though I didn't actually take the pic myself.
All this just to get someone to acknowledge one of my photos that appeared in print.
Anybody?
