OK, so the title is a blatant attempt to garner views/interest - would you have tuned in if I instead dubbed it "A pic of my daughters" or some such thing? :-)

Now that you're here, is this pic cute without knowing the subjects as I do? I like it, but am very biased.

Also, how can I improve the viewable quality of the images when loaded into my portfolio? I've loaded a few that I tried to make of reasonable file size, and they do not look very clean when viewed here (the above pic is one example - the version I uploaded seemed much sharper). Is there some further automatic compression when the images are uploaded?

This is soo cute!
Did you try unsharp mask?
05/28/2004 01:48:43 PM · #5
Thanks! I did use unsharp mask - the original looks fine, but detail was lost in the resizing/compression (I think - I've much to learn about editing/postprocessing). Not sure when I applied unsharp mask (before or after resizing/compressing). Maybe I should apply unsharp mask again, after the resize/compression?

Is there a protocol for such things?

How cute.
If the file size is over 150k(normal challenge size) the site will automatically compress it. Better to keep it smaller, that way you will have more control on how it's displayed.

The file size, on the image info page in my portfolio, says original - 133k, medium 58k. I'm assuming it's being displayed at 58k, right? That's fine, I'm just curious if there is a way to improve the appearance at that compression level.

They're cute. My wife also agrees that they're cute. She liked the pinkness of the dresses and the hairband.

About the sharpnening, check out Russell Brown's Save for the Web tutorial. It's accessible only through the second menu page, so you'll have to click on 'more tips' and then scroll down. It's very, very good if you have Photoshop.
