I am not new to debating in open forums about religion, politics etc. There are places for that. However, things can get pretty heated in any type of forum, especially when you have an Off-topic section (Which can lead to more controversial topics).

When someone decides to use the PM function to try and get in someones face, I hope they know that just because it says Private Message doesn't necessarily mean the person it reaches will keep it private. Anything you say in a PM can be copy and pasted into a discussion. I've done it when people try to get in my face on certain issues and hurl some bullying remarks thinking 'well, I'm safe from looking like an a--hole because it's a "PRIVATE" message'.

I was asked once (Not here) why I didn't simple report the PM. My answer "I didn't feel the need to" I posted it where everyone could see and let allow the discussion to move from there. Obviously the person sending the PM isn't happy, but too bad. You send it and it will be received...by EVERYONE in some cases.

Alright, time to take my wife to the movies.

Hi Jason,

On this site, taking a PM and posting it publicly without the senders permission, especially for the purpose of shaming or ridiculing the sender, will generally be considered a violation of site policy, and will be dealt with as such.

PMs sent through DPChallenge are still subject to the site rules and policies. If you have received a PM that contains a personal attack, please forward it to us and we will deal with the sender appropriately.

May I ask what rule I would be breaking if I posted a PM someone sent me?

Potentially any or all of the following:

Forum rules:

12. Do not bait or provoke other users. This does not promote civil discussion and will not be tolerated.

13. Assume good faith. When replying to a post, your reply must assume that the original poster's message was intended to be constructive and follow the rules. It's difficult to convey facial expressions or tone of voice over the forums, so a post that appears offensive may be well intentioned. If you cannot assume the original poster acted in good faith, report the post in question, and do not reply at all.

14. Above all, play nice. Be aware that the above rules are not all-inclusive. If you stir up trouble to prove a point, or engage in a pattern of disruptive behavior, we will address your actions, even if those actions do not violate any specific rule listed here. We will also handle any issues not specifically covered by the rules on a case by case basis. (In this case, specifically the part about stirring up trouble to prove a point)

Terms of Use:

4.1 Generally, you must use the DPChallenge.com Service in a manner that demonstrates good taste and respect for the rights of DPChallenge.com and third parties.

4.2 You will not use the DPChallenge.com Service to post content or to design, manufacture, market or sell a Product that (i) infringes the rights of a third party, including, without limitation, copyrights, trademarks, patents, trade secrets, rights of privacy and publicity, (ii) is libelous, defamatory or slanderous, ... (vi) is designed to or does harass, threaten, defame or abuse others.

7.2 You represent and warrant to DPChallenge.com that any content you submit to DPChallenge.com and any Product that you design, manufacture, market or sell using the DPChallenge.com Service will not infringe the copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, rights of privacy and publicity or other legal right of any third party.

If you receive an inappropriate PM, the best thing to do is report it. No sense in dragging yourself down to the sender's level.
