I highly recomend Vestfirdir. The litle I´ve seen of it is just amazing (Latrabjarg, Arnarfjordur and more). |

It's been a while since I looked at this thread...what were the dates that most people were planning on and for what length of time?
Could somebody please summarize who's in and when, etc?

Wow. Very jealous. 2005 trip for me has been set for Tunisia, Africa (which will be very exciting in itself, but lacking 20 or so dpc companions.)

Awesome. Feel free to pass along any wonderful photo-op spots while you're at it. Business or pleasure?

Just one observation:
Temperature difference between June/July/August is not that much, July being the warmest, but not by a large margin. (see also info from the Icelandic meterological office).
But in July will be far more tourists here, so in June there will be less traffic, less demand on accommedation, fewer people ruining landscapes by walking into them :) etc
So I'd suggest June 15th to 25th. June 17th is a national holliday, our Idenpendence day, so a lot of festivities and photo options. Could cost a hangover the next day :)
The same applies for late August-early September
Edit:
Yes, and BTW the longest day of the year is around June 21st, and if we're in N Iceland at that point we'll get the true midnight sun.

You celebrate independence day in June AND August? Wow. :-)
I actually second going in June if there will be less tourists. There was a lot of tourists in Iceland 1 week ago, I'm sure there will be more in July. :-)

I totally want to go, but that's not a week that my husband is free. He's a student, and he won't be out of Summer Term (year round college) until the mid-end of August :( I even have friends in Iceland too!!!
Man, I wish I could go! I wish you all the best and hope you all have a great time! Perhaps we can plan a trip for 2006 sometime in late Aug early Sept or even early May. I don't expect people to vacation around me, but just incase you haven't picked a date for your 2006 trip yet! :)

I'm 100% there, however, I'm gonna be a little selfish and request this trip happens around July 20th (my birtday), that way I can kill 2 birds with one stone. I really really wanna do this during my birthday, but I'm going regardless of the date.

Nope. There will be more in July. Trust me, I know what I'm doing! :)
Usually the main tourist season starts about 3rd week of June, depending on a lot of other factors like: Euro/World Cups in Football (know to you 'mericans as Soccer), solar/lunar eclipses, terrorists, alien abductions and other.
July is the busiest month, and into the first two weeks of august.
BTW doctornick I think I sent you a PM to put me onto the list, but I haven't seen any reply. Did you get it?
