Are you serious? The big dipper was really right there above the lighthouse? What a perfect setup! Love the long exposure, the effects of the small aperture on the light of the lighthouse, and the colors in the sky. Good luck in the challenge!

returning for comments.
Like most people, I have a weakness for light houses. Great capture and very well presented. Bumping up.

Extra point for the Big Dipper. Cool shot.

Nice range of lighting, good exposure. I'd be tempted to crop out a lot of the bottom - that would tend to emphasize the very interesting sky I think.

this is one of the hardest pictures to comment on. it's unique feature which i do like is the inclusion of the Plough constellation. i've never seen a such a thing so well defined in a photo before. i think it's a bit unbalanced by the area of black in the foreground, and i also think that the lighthouse seems a little small / lost in the shot. it's like, you've got two great things (three including the sunset) and you're not sure which one you want us to look at. i think thats the problem - there's too much unrelated stuff in the shot. less would be more, i think... 4.

Beautiful shot. The contrast between the land, evening sky colors and dark of night was well composed. Nicely done.

Did you clone out the other stars to leave only the dipper?

I love how the lighthouse points to the Big Dipper... pretty sharp!
