Surprised people in the other hemisphere have not claimed they don't "have" an outdoors when we have our outdoors :)

Bassbone - Ticks might be interesting and you probably would be very original. Of course we would know who those ticks belonged to now. :)

Yeah, they will have to use metric steps for this challenge! LOL!

All kidding aside, this challenge is actually an example of an established creativity-goad used by photography teachers. The idea, actually, is NOT to try to find a way to get somewhere spectacular in 47 steps, but rather to really get into whatever is there, when you get there, and explore its possibilities.

It's a great exercise...

Of course this is DPC, which means the winning pictures will be the most appealing pictures, which means everyone is gonna try to be appealing, and so forth and so on, and that's really too bad. Interesting photos of weeds, debris, and dirt would be wonderful to see :-)

Got it ... (but I also enjoyed the jokes).

So again like everybody has been saying, every single time i try this, i always get a fence or someones house. lol although like people have been saying to take very tiny steps, i still get fences... although i stretched the rules and got some flowers... Im just over flowing with excitement...... =[
maybe i could get a good flower shot here soon before a good hard frost. lol

Frost can be interesting. :-)

Wow. How lucky am I?

My 47 steps took me right to a place where studio lights were setup around a sweet water drop with a deep blue and warm red backdrop.

It's all honor system and this is purely academic, but...

Are these "steps" as paces? strides? OCD one foot in front of the other? :)

You could shuffle so essentially only getting a few feet from the door you exit from. ;o)

Is your boat docked? If so, start there.

Quick question... can we be in the picture? i.e. can we put the camera at the 47 step point, walk infront of the camera and use a remote to activate the shutter?

well...the description doesn't say you can't. But will the trolls try to say otherwise? I'd say go for it...

the way I see it, as long as the picture is taken from that spot, it shouldn't matter if I am in the picture... it says don't move another step, but i think it refers to not moving the camera...

and that's when the literalistic trolls step in and slam your photo...

I understand that instead of asking for the original raw file, you will be queried for a movie of your footsteps. :-O

No, they will request a google-earth satellite capture of your house with red dots marking your steps, final point of view and the major landmarks (which should match the features seen in the picture) clearly labeled, like this:

I don't like challenges like this because humanity can't be trusted.

Especially DPC humanity.

you don't get anywhere in 47 steps!!! I just tried it, and I barely get out of my front yard! blech.

Personally...I think it would be fine to add props or people or whatever as long as you are standing in the right spot. What do you think?

I don't think using props is within the spirit of the exercise. I think the whole point is to learn to see what is around you, and to figure out a way to make the overlooked and uninteresting - interesting. I think if I see what I think are props, it will affect my scoring. Just me.

Can we get a guarantee that elsapo isn't playing?

Totally agree. Importing props, setting up the picture in any way, is not what the exercise is designed around. fd course, this is DPC and so that's irrelevant, but.... In any case, I did just what the challenge asked for ΓΆ€” didn't make any effort to direct myself in a photogenic direction, just headed out and shot where I ended up. Got scratched from some thorns for my trouble, too :-)

I followed the rules to the letter and went back and forth between two shots. One was more creative because there was no real subject. In the other direction there was a subject. I have a feeling that a random rock may do better than a more common subject in this one just because. That makes it more difficult to decide on one photo or the other. Oh well...it has been fun regardless. :)

this challenge made me want to throw stuff, jump up and down and scream...

and, at first, i thought it'd be fun. go figure.

really, it was a much more difficult challenge than i thought it was going to be. anyone else have a hard time getting something interesting?
