These Gloves--just got them (ordered a pair for my wife to help her hand pain, thought they might be good for handling a camera in weather, so snagged a pair for myself)

So, not only do the open fingertips allow full operation of buttons and wheels, this specific brand is covered with a matrix of slightly tacky (sticky) dots that make gripping the camera a sure thing. Neoprene keeps the hands warm (but could still have cold fingertips in cold weather, so beware. They are snug, stretchy, and flexible. I typed this post while wearing them as a test--but gotta take em off now (hands getting too warm).

Anyway, a bit pricey I think, but these seem to be a decent solution. I have an outdoor shoot this weekend--almost hoping for crappy weather so I can try em out!

Do they smell? Sometimes Neoprene stuff stinks pretty bad.

Not that I can detect--out of the box they actually smell pretty good--no rubbery or foul smell at all.

Your mileage may vary :-)

Also look at hunting and fishing type gloves they have covered fingers that can be pulled back. I use a pair that was made for fishing and they work great but are not as insulating as some of the hunting gloves which are a little bulkier but warmer.

Yea--I have a pair of thick warm gloves with a mitten part that folds over the fingers--okay, but too thick and slippery for handling an slr, and the thumb is always covered. But very good in cold weather--not so good for slr buttons & thumbwheel.
