I've been asked to take photos of a band who will be performing this weekend and seeing as this is my first time taking band photos, I was wondering if anyone had some tips for me? I won't be using any flash or off camera lighting, just bumping up my ISO and available light from the stage.

No advice from me, but I'm curious to see what people have to say. Looks like your lenses are fast enough. Will you be in the crowd, or standing off to the side of the stage?

I can pretty much be wherever I want, other than right on the stage. I think mostly, I will stick to the floor on either side of the stage and also in front of stage.

Your glass is fast enough, I would just set yourself on Av mode @ 2.8 at a high ISO and as long as you are getting shutter speeds of 1/200 or more you should be good to go.

Thanks for posting this...
I have to take 'bar band' photos tonight...nothing fancy...
Planning on using this lens...
Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX VR II
Is it fast enough? my other option is my 50mm but would lose my zoom/wide capabilities.

Sorry to hear that dassilem :( I'm happy to report though, that my first time concert photos went very well... better than expected actually. As soon as I get them sorted I will post a few for you all to see and critique.

please do.....not to worry about my pics...it was my sister's band, and I'll have plenty of opportunity to get it right.
