On June 11th or 12th, I'm interested in getting together a group of interested DC area DPCers for a late night Monument Safari. We would meet up around 1am in order to get the most unobstructed shooting oppertunities. For those of you who have always wanted that great night shot of the Jefferson Memorial without all the people in the memorial- here's the chance. :)
Reply back to this thread if you are interested so I can start working out the logistics. :)

I am from Oklahoma, and will be in DC from the 11th to the 14th. I would LOVE to be a part of this safari. I have never been to DC before, and had hoped to take some good pictures. This sounds like an awesome opportunity. If you would like to have me along, I would be a very happy man.

Sign me up :) I just made hotel reservations for June 9-13.
Preference would be the 11th if possible :)

I'm in - but have some doubts about people walking around the monuments around 1:00 A.M. with tripods. You might want to think about 10:00 or 11:00 ish. Security in D.C. is no joke. |

The issues is being addressed. :) The monuments have no closing time, and during the summer you will probably still see people out and about. It's less disruptive to the "normal" tourists if we got late. I will be confirming with the Parks Service and if need be adjustments will be made.

Sounds like fun - I should be able to make it on either night.
As far as security goes, the more people that go on this metro safari, the better. There is safety in numbers after all...

I have been to the mall late at night to take pictures several times. I would not expect any problems from security officials or any one else. The biggest problem may be that some services are less available such as food and drink, and restrooms. I am not sure but maybe the water fountains and restrooms at the FDR are open 24 hrs. And parking will be easy for a change.
However, something else to consider is the predicted arrival of seventeen year cicadas. They may make it unpleasant to be out and degrade photographic opportunities. |

The cicadias are probably just going to cause noise issues. Think of it as ambiance for the folks visiting from out of town.
Again, if closer to the projected deadline it looks like this will be a problem, we will readjust. But there are some folks who will only be in the area that weekend, and it would be fun to meet up with them.
Clara- just bring you Bug Off! ;)

Just for the record, the 12th would work better for me as well. I am supposed to shoot a wedding on the morning of the 12th after arriving in DC on the night of the 11th. It would be very difficult to get into town, find my hotel room, meet up with you, take pictures, then be up early to shoot a wedding. That being said, I would do it anyway :) Just letting you know my preference.
thanks for putting this together.

Any consensus on the date yet? 11th or 12th? |

Leaning strongly towards the 12th. That way those of us who may be working Friday get some snooze time. :)

Okay sports fans with a little over a week to go, I wanted to put out one last push for the Capitol Nights Tour! This is a great oppertunity to do some night shooting with your fellow DPCers. Come one, come all! Just think- June Free Study oppertunities. :)
The shoot will be the Night of June 12th.
