Can we just do a challenge called "rain and no roads"? I was stumped in the postcard challenge because of severe flooding here, and now this challenge has come up - we have 2 incredible railway graveyards here, but the roads to them have been washed away........ :-(

Darn, bad timing for me I'm going to have to miss this one. One of my favorite subjects too.

next to my kids being in college and no longer filling my house with noise (they are one year apart each and there are three of them so it was a fast blow) there is nothing I miss more as far as sounds go than the trains that used to run through our small WA state town in the 90's when we lived there..........sigh..........

I have a freaking AMAZING shot of a guy crouching down on a small platfrom next to the tracks as the train is whizzing by. The shot caught just as there was an opening letting the light hit his face in a FREAKING dramatic way. THAT was my winning shot dang it!!! The shot can't be repeated. It typified the urban shot i was looking for. Can we back date this challenge a couple of days?

put in free study?

or share with us anyway?

I'm sure this would do okay, but in my opinion, it needs a bit tighter crop. Again, just my opinion, but the signal doesn't add much and the rest of the train ends up a bit distracting. From this angle, perhaps a crop about halfway down the B-unit, so as to avoid the trees? BTW, the clouds are perfect, IMO, and the B/W lends a nice feel to this F9.

This train runs right near my neighborhood but of course it doesn't start running until May!

Just has a total result.
There is a rail museum only an hour away from me and they are having a steam day tomorrow so guess
where I'll be going. Fingers crossed for the weather now.

Looks like trains are not nearly as popular as pencils and crayons. Only 4 entries for trains so far, including mine. 3x as many for colored pencils. I was figuring on a few side trips this week to various railroad locations, but I found a shot I really liked on my first outing.

My last train entry in the Feb Freestudy was a yawner, coming in only slightly on the positive side of mediocre. I wonder if it would have done better in this themed challenge?

This should be an easy challenge for me. I work at a factory that builds locomotives. I have taken a hundred pictures today without success. I guess I will try again tomorrow.

I'll make certain to leave some comments on any shots entered that appear to be taken in rain. I will be sure to mention that it would have been better if shot on a sunny day.

Its a cool shot but a lot of editing went into it. Now its basic editing. Not only that but to me if you have seen a shot like this before then you have seen it before. I am not sure it would have the same kind of impact it did the first time especially if you cant use the same editing. Not sure but just my thoughts.

Well....I may not be posting in this challenge...unless somehow there is a break in the rain tomorrow where I'm near the old train station. But, please enjoy my unofficial contribution:

I think challenge should be held off till summer or fall, I live in WI and well the Snirt (a.k.a dirty snow) is finally gone but now there is just dead nothing. 6 weeks out it will be nice but for now the train tracks that run 2 houses away from mine just look blah. But I went and took some shots in another town today and going to take more Sunday in a different town, hopefully I will come back with something of interest enough to post.

Happy Easter everyone and God Bless,

~D~

Gotta' agree with you here... even a bit further south here in Iowa, the landscape is just dreary. Tried to get something for the recent Postcard challenge, but no such luck. Now I'm a huge train fan, so I've got my work cut out for me this weekend.

Seems like a good topic for any time of the year.

I can't believe this. I live near Chicago which is one of the largest rail centers in the world, am a member of the Inllios Railway Museum, trains are one of my favorite subjects and I got nothing for this challenge. POO!!!!

Everyone has some very good captures of trains. I have high hopes for my entry but the quality of shot's in this thread alone makes me question my placement in this challenge.
