Very nice. lol.

Although my mind-set on this site doesn't usually bring me through the whole process. Then again, I don't suffer the real-world equivalent as it pertains to death either. I'm like one of Tolkien's Elves. I don't really grieve death. I don't understand it fully, and I empathize with others around me, but it doesn't touch me like it touches most people. I enjoy celebrating what it is, and what the person was.

So is my DPC life, and death ;)

DPC is fundamentally flawed in that the voters are generally the entrants. Therefore, if people feel their photo is under unfair attack they may react accordingly by scoring low. It is human nature to compare ones efforts to those of others so a voter may well think 'mine just got a 3, so any other photo that I consider to be as good gets a 3 from me'.

I don't vote in challeges I've entered any more.

I couldn't agree more, and attempted to bring that up 6 months ago, citing that no other competitors in the outside world are also judges. I was shot down in flames - I think someone told me that the US presidents vote for themselves.....

No, you weren't "Shot down in flames", it was merely pointed out to you that there are quite a few photogs here that rise above the immaturity level that it takes to lash out because you think you're being voted unfairly.

It is, after all, just a virtual ribbon.....no cash or prizes, and after a week, your spot in the limelight, or the lack thereof, is gone.

The best part of the whole thinmg is when you get to that point where your acceptance level with your image happens BEFORE you ever submit the image, so that the score just really doesn't matter unless you get the pleasant surprise of a Top 10, or even a ribbon.

I figure my one vote is not going to make that much of a difference in my own placement, and I find that I'm a lot harder on my own photo when I'm critically looking at others of the same type. I actually learn a lot by voting in my own challenge.

Say it ain't so!!!!......8>)

Terrific attitude, m'lady!

Do you know what I changed my mind I just can't be bothered.

A sad day when humans cannot be bothered by being civilized.

I'm sorry, I think you might have misunderstood my previous post. I wasn't saying I couldn't be bothered to apologise. I was refering to the fact that I had made a post then changed my mind and removed it as I couldn't be bothered to deal with the aftermath.

Since you cannot leave this alone I will repeat my deleted post below and then hopefuly, should anyone decide they want to continue to contibute (which I very much doubt now) to what was meant to be a fun thread, they can do so.

Directly in response to your comment

I responded with (although then deleted it)...

Please, I have no desire to get into a great big debate and spoil the thread but please be assured that I have no intention of apologising either.

As I would in the 'real world' I thought it polite to explain to you both how and why I came to the conclusion that I did and why I feel no need to apologise.

IF you had said, 'Thats really good and well written, I wrote one similar just a few weeks ago, take a look' then I would have reacted differently. As it is, IMO your post appeared to imply that I had plagiarised 'your' previous work and you wished to make that point soley and made no attempt to make any other contibution to the thread. The inclusion of the date and the link (seemingly to reiterate your point) and the smiley just reinforced my opinion.

I accept that my interpretation of events may well be incorrect. I am however of the opinion that based on your contribution to other threads and certain attitudes that I have seen exhibited towards others in the short time I have been a member here, I am confident enough in my position to allow my view of these particualr events to be influenced and perhaps predujiced by the opinion of you that has formed for me as a result.

As I am sure none of the other members wish to continue reading my or your posts on this subject please refrain if you can, from posting back into this thread. There is certainly something rather ugly and narcisitic about conducting ones disagreements in such a public way. If you do wish to respond then please feel free to PM me but please don't be disapointed if I don't respond.

Thanks, Paul.

I would sincerely like to appologise to any members that happen across the sorry mess that this thread has become. It was obviously not my intention for this to become a slanging match and I would not want others to form the opinion that this is representative of how I would normally choose to conduct myself in any circumstances, least of all on a public forum.

I'm grateful to those who responded positively to my original post and I hope it gave a laugh and food for thought.

Cheers, Paul

Hawkeye -- I thought you put this thread on ignore. You're on thin ice.

I agree wholeheartedly with this....

I definately give out higher scores than what I give... I've never given a 1 or 2 and maybe a couple threes, but my average score given is a 6.91.... I've pondered on voting low, but just figured if I enjoy the picture then my vote will/should definately reflect that....

greetings to TallPaul ..
that was the best read i've had for ages ...
extremely entertaining and very funny ..
unfortunately i saw myself in there over and over .. aghhhhhhhh !!!
but the bit i particularly loved was 'enjoy your photography' .. coz after you've gone thru all those painful steps and come out the other end thats what matters the most ..
a challenge will be a hazy memory in such a short time but your photography will be with you forever ..
thanks for a very interesting time .. :)
