The image with the fewest excuses to lower the score wins.......lol

OK, now I get it. If you feel that the people are just relaxing, then it stays a valid picture without the moon. For me, they were "moon-bathing", so if you remove the moon, there's nothing left. I guess it's two valid opinions. Mine was certainly influenced by the title.

I really like this photo and yes the title helps but I've got to be honest I rarely read titles and to me the image was about relaxing and enjoying the company of another person and the moon became secondary to me, I agree the image would not have had the impact it did without the moon but I would have been looking for more of a main subject. I did not vote in the challenge but would have given it a 5-6, I feel the overall photo in a free study would have been given a 6-7, I do not feel it totally misses but was not a strong tie into the challenge. Others felt the sun reflection to be an issue, personally I do not but thats why we vote.

I actually took the title to mean that the moon was watching the people!

Now that's interesting! Indeed it's not the people watching. I just noticed that audience refers rather to listening, not watching. As the moon does not make any noise, the audience has to be the moon. Are they snoring?

One thing is for sure, there are no hairs to fine to split here at DPC. The challenge said that the sun could not be the subject. The moon illuminated the scene. It did so by reflected sunlight. The sun is not the subject. No mention was made of not allowing any reflected sunlight into the image.

Perhaps, each challenge can come with a handbook describing in excruciating detail the exact wishes of Langdon, and the council.

Alternatively, we can read the challenge, seek inspiration, take the photo, prepare it for entry, and then hope that what we saw is communicated to the others in a convincing fashion. And if not, then we go back and try again. And then in the end, decide whether we want to shoot for score, or for personal experience. If it is the former, then read the comments carefully, follow the threads in the forums, do your best to copy and be just like the current winning photos. If it is the latter, take pleasure in those you reached, who could see your vision, and pity the other poor mindless souls who just don't get you.

Well that's a given. But we're arguing semantics here, no place for this kind of wisdom ;)

Truest statement I've seen on this sight about voting.

I hope you dont think I'm one of those people that take offense to comments. I need honest constructive comments like yours and everybody else. The constructive comments are the real reason I stay on DPC, as opposed to all the "hi fiving" and "well done" pat on the back that goes on at other sites. I learn a lot from comments so keep it coming :) :)

I think you did great with that image at 16 out of 178. It might have helped a tiny bit to call it "Moontanning" so that people didn't think it was the sun and taken heavily filtered.

But, the real bottom line is that taking the Challenge as literally as possible is the best way to not get DNMCs. If you think outside the box or play with the interpretation at all, you'll get dinged for it. And that will never, ever change!
