I vote NO also. I agree the challenge has met/exceeded everyone's expectations for number of votes, entries and comments. Any longer is just a waste of time and a distraction to the rest of the challenges.

I voted yes, but wish i could reconsider.
A few points:
1) After close to 500 votes, will another 100 or so votes really change the average much.
2) This challenge has already broken all the records except for the average comments one (which it still might), so lets leave open the possibility that these records can be broken again in the future, and not make them unreachable.
3) I think people just want to see the results. |

I voted no. In the past when voting was extended the increase in number of votes over the extension period was insignificant.
I'm not entered so have no connection with current score. |

I agree. I think voting will die off within three days or so. I voted NO. I voted on 100% of the photos, I dont need to look at them for another week. |

What do you know... it is still there. When i first voted, it was at the top the page, and moved to the bottom after voting... I thought it disappeared.
Thanks. |

I selfishly voted yes mainly because I wanted a chance to vote the rest of the images which would make me take the time to see all of the entries (I know I can go in and see them later), a week is propably overkill and I agree more votes will not make much of a difference to scores. I am good with it either way but had to pick a button..... |

an extension would be a very effective way to delegitimize all the records being broken by this challenge. |

Devil's advocate...
The Best of 2005 challenge which we are comparing our 3 main statistics to, had 2 weeks time to submit and 2 weeks time to vote, therefore you wouldn't be deliegitimizing the records.
Best Of 2005
Total Number of Entries: 829
*** Update *** Record broken: 1130 entries
Total Number of Comments: 18,062
*** Update *** Record broken: 18,119 comments (as of Mar 12th, 11:00 am)
Total Number of Votes: 359,220
*** Update *** Record broken: 374,984 comments (as of Mar 13th, 11:45 pm) |

It's just more amazing all around to have had this take place in one week, and I hope that the voting will end as scheduled.
Some of us are still voting, I have about half to go, and work better to deadlines! |

PLEASE DONT EXTEND THE DEADLINE. WHY? IT WOULD LEAVE MANY OF US FEELING CHEATED AND HAVING SPENT ALL THOSE LONG HOURS AND SLEEPNESS NIGHTS FOR NOTHING. KEEP TO THE SCHEDULE PLEASE! IF IT GETS EXTENDED NOW I FOR ONE WONT BE PARTICIPATING IN SUCH A RECORD COMMENTING SESSION AGAIN. I EVEN GAVE UP THE CHANCE OF TAKING PHOTO"S FOR THE NEXT CHALLENGE SO I COULD FINISH COMMENTING.

Seems like it would have the opposite effect. Most of those records were from the Best of 2005 challenge, which had a 2 week voting period.
Doh- I should have read a few posts back. :-/

But doesn't that make these new records all the more significant? Why bring this to the level that a several year old challenge needed to take to achieve their goals when we destroyed them within the time we initially established? |

Well, looks like the majority is speaking out loud and clear. lol.
Ah well, it was fun while it lasted, so I guess I'll have to be content to finish with 100 comments made instead of 150.
Not that there is anything stopping anyone from finishing up AFTER the challenge, but I really prefer to comment on photos when I don't know who they are. I don't know why. lol.

Follow that reasoning and you can climb to a 6.9999 But 7.0 is forever beyond your reach :-)

I will just have to find another formula to go by then, wouldn't I? |

I agree...but I also at least want to LOOK at all the entries. Sure I could always go back afterwards but I don't feel I would be doing them justice by either quickly scanning through them or "cherry picking" images after the challenge is over. So um..I said yes. |
"cherry picking" "cherry picking"
If we had much smaller thumbnails no one would be able to practice "cherry picking" and would have to view all photos and maybe vote on them. |
Ah yes that dreaded cherry picking practice. I'm still waiting to see some shred of evidence that suggest cherry picking is somehow bad let alone ANY different than voting randomly. If everyone practiced cherry picking the images picked would be as diverse and varied as what you'd find in a random distribution. Last I checked we are not clones. We wouldn't all pick the same images. |
