Whew, think I am done for the day as that I really need to attend to other things. Wish I could just look at the pictures more and comment:-)

I give everything better than mine a 1 and everything worse a 2. Occasionally I re-visit my scores and I may bump some up to a 3, but I always leave a comment saying that I love the photo and that I've given it a 7 or 8. Like this:
"Wonderful composition and a beautiful recreation of one of the greatest works of art created by man - 8" is a 1
"Awesome capture, great action - 9" is a 1
etc |

seems like voting is starting to slow down just a tad. (for awhile i was able to update every two minutes or so!)
I've started my voting and I've found that I've lowered my standards. I thought that I'd be harsher on photos, but it's the opposite. I'm enjoying the photos and giving higher scores because I'm finding them enjoyable. I don't care if the photo could have been better--something is a little fuzzy--if it makes me smile--who cares?
Also, I find myself unable to give 4's where I once would have. If these are people's gems, I don't need to stomp on them--this is a fun challenge. Unless it's atrocious, it's getting a 5. I'll stomp on your feelings on the next challenge instead. |

I also do similarly. The reason is that once you know the best out of the bunch then I give it 10 & recalibrate other scores by taking the best image as reference.
When I start I give 5 to an average image & good images above 5 whereas technically weak images below 5. |

I'm with you buddy.
I've got one tiny bit of criticism and the rest are 'glowing' with one stating a vote of 8. My score was 5.45 with 189 votes before that, then it was 5.4343 with 194 votes after it.
I sure hope people that are doing all this speed voting are giving due attention to what they are doing. It took me 5 hours to get to 32% with 12% commented. I see that some have blasted through to finish all the voting in 3 hours or so.
Remember, while it is a form of free study, it does still have a topic of 'hidden gem', so that means that some pictures may require an extra moment to fully appreciate.
Of course it took me 3 years to realize the full impact of my entry, so I guess I haven't got a lot of room to point fingers :). |

This one has been fun to watch. So many views and scores in such a short time. I'm hoping for a  k10dguy and cnovack comment, have really enjoyed getting so many total. My entry spent the first day at 6.5/6.4 then was at 6.3 all of yesterday, now is dropping. But the shot pleases me, and it turned out to be much more of a gem than as originally edited on its creation years ago. Hope to vote soon, started a little and left comments.

It just struck me that this second meaning of "Hidden Gem" seems to have been taken by many to be not just a shot from their archives that hadn't been submitted before as the "Details" said but an actual "Topic" for the shot. Mine accidentally fits that in one way and I can see how others fit it in a totally different way. That's pretty cool.
And to keep to topic, I started at 6.33, but have settled to about 5.8. Many more comments than any previous entry, but don't stop now!

So, my 100ish vote score was just above 5.6, which would normally be where it would settle in past challenges. The remaining 50 or so votes would land around there, and the oddly high or low votes would not have enough "weight" to shift the score much.
It dropped some since then, and is pretty flat now, so I am calling my score as 5.5ish. Unless we get 1000 votes and a whole bunch of them feel radically enthused about or disgusted by my entry, this is about where I will be. Of course 300 votes of 9 or 10 would certainly lift it, and would be welcome :-) |

So far I have commented on 700+ entries in this challenge and will go until I finish all of them. (I have no life. What can I say. haahha)
But I want you to know that I am not just giving half fast comments. They arent books tho. I dont teach photography but I am making a first impression comment that I hope you all find meaningful or helpful in some way. |

More comments too, although I have to say, I'm putting an asterisk beside this entry. It'll be a personal best for number of comments received during a challenge, but it's kind of a manufactured record, so it doesn't really belong with all the regular entries. It doesn't make it any less wonderful to get, but I can't in all good faith think that it has so many comments because it's a more outstanding photo than anything else I have.
Ah, but I ramble. I love the comments, and want MORE MORE MORE! but yah, asterisk. |
