You have a lot more will power. For me its wait of rit...wait for it...clickclickclickclickclickclickclickclick...votevotevotevotevotevotevote...clickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclick. Repaet as many times as neccessary until either a) tire or b)satisfied to the point you can sleep. |
Me too LOL! As I said elsewhere I am almost always happy with what I submit, but I do want to know what others think. It's exciting to get the initial results.
It would be fun for DPC to report how many refresh clicks happen in the first hour of the challenge! |

well, if you're quitting, can I have all your lenses? :)

nah, quitting photography would be like losing a loved one, really sad...quitting dpc would be like losing a few pounds, not sad at all

I think there are so many interpretations of abstract the wining shot will be a low scroe in the 6's again. Atleast I hope so, it will be less humiliating. :) |

For all those scoring in the 5s, I have some good news.
My 'Where you Live' photo which finished on 7.030 (5th place) finished Monday with a 5.9 score. I was disappointed with this, because I thought the shot deserved better. I was happy for the rest of the week:
Tuesday - 6.2
Wednesday - 6.3
Thursday - 6.6
Friday - 6.8
Saturday - 7.0
Sunday - 6.9
Final - 7.030
So don't pay too much attention over your initial scores - and certainly don't beat yourselves up over it.

Also it is random. I had weeks when scores kept increasing like yours did, then last week whas the strangest , i kept climbing every day from 5.6 to 6.0xx then imediately someone came and put it back in 5.6. This went on and on all week. It really is random and I don't see any point of giving initial scores much attenttion, but as we are so addicts and keep hiting the "update" link every 2 seconds, we need to share our frustrations / hapiness andother feelings we have :)) |

I am only half way through voting/commenting on the "Abstract" challenge so have not seen my score yet.
I found my shot by accident and I really liked my entry in this challenge. I guess, since I like it so much, it's probably sitting at 4.2 or something.
Now I'm afraid to look.

I find that people either love abstracts or hate them. Unrecognisable abstracts, to me personally, are mostly like fingerpainting - fun to do but who really cares afterwards. So if your score is bad this week then chances are the voter(s) just dont much like abstracts. I glanced through the thumbs and there were some that stood out as really neat. Incidentally, I cant currently vote on the challenge, so dont blame me! |

Well my score is so disappointing that I`ve switched of my score for this week. I don`t wish to be clicking the update button and watch it keep going down :).
Oh well, maybe next week

I am getting the same thing. the title will be their undoing. Is funny, but aggravating at the same time. By the way...do voters know what DOF is? Just curious.

hehe. that is what I say anytime I intentionally use DOF while shooting for an entry. DOH-Not gonna go over well. Not everything tack sharp focus. when will I learn? |

Well, you should make it clearer you mean a shallow DOF. Not an insignificant number of people here do appreciate it, even though it's not as popular as some other techniques.
I appreciate it because it's hard to do decently, especially with a lower-end digital camera ... although I was pretty happy with my Shallow DOF entry

Judging by the two comments I received, "How is (the subject) abstract?" and, "I can tell what this is." I can see that some voters are placing as much emphasis on the last sentence in the challenge instructions as the first.
This is from the "Abstract Comment" thread last night:
Originally posted by nshapiro: ...The emphasis on the challenge is the first sentence: Is the picture you are looking at more about lines, shapes and colors than it is about any recognizable subject? In other words, you should see the lines, shapes, and colors, foremost. If you can recognize an object, it should be only secondary that you see it as such.
When I submitted this challenge description when they were collecting the big list of challenges, it was my intent to focus the challenge on shots that are "clearly abstract". There are so many shots on these types of sites where someone calls it an abstract, but it is first and foremost a picture of something you recognize.
But again, to me, clearly abstract is about seeing lines, shapes and colors as the primary subject of the photo... |
I guess I'll justify my entry with the above statement in mind. I'm happy. I hope to receive some constructive comments, as opposed to stating the obvious (and fulfilling the notion that you must comment on an image that you give a three or less.)
This AM, I've gotten a slight rise to 3.7xxx. This is surely my lowest scoring entry. Still, I welcome comments. Think "lines, shapes, colors..."
