the scoring for DPCO 4???
Seems like we should have had a back up plan in case this happened. Or Dirt got ill or something.
So anyone know how to do the scoring>

| He could have just meant posting in that thread. His account is still active. Send him a PM and see what he says about the DPCO. |

| I'm more worried about DD than the olympics. I hope he's OK - he seemed so upset :( |

| Anyway, DD has always been a passionate presence on this site, arguing strongly in favor of one change or another, and he can be pretty tenacious about it. He said he "may" leave; I hope he doesn't. |

I think one of the amber alerts is hitting close to home for Joe. (I do hope that he and his loved ones are ok) Joe is from AL and this alert is for KY and AL
Amber Alert Issued for 2 Year old Kentucky Girl
Posted: Saturday, February 28, 2009 3:03 PM CT
The State of Kentucky issued the Amber Alert on Saturday (2-28) after the suspect failed to return the girl following visitation in Frankfort on Friday. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous and has suicidal tendencies according to Police.
Breanna Woodside is a white female, 2 years old, 3 ft. tall and weighs 35 pounds. She has straight blonde hair past her shoulders, and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing purple sweatpants, a purple and pink striped shirt, a black jacket with pink lining, and blue shoes.
The suspect is Miles Woodside, a 30 year old white male, 6'1'' and weighs 190 pounds. He has red hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing loose-fitting blue jeans, and tennis shoes. He has a tattoo with symbols between his upper shoulders.
The suspect vehicle is a silver 1997 Lincoln Towncar with KY tag number 064BAA.
Anyone with information is asked to call Frankfort Police Department at 502-875-8582 or dial 911.
I agree that his response to NJ was over the top. However I am not going to put a guy down for wanting to make a suggestion that could actually save a life. His point about personal threads and people coming together to help families etc of our members is a valid one.
My suggestion would be that perhaps DD can subscribe to the emailed amber alerts, and when they occur, create the thread, then send a pm to the SC asking to have it made a "sticky" thread that stays on top for a bit.
Again, I certainly hope that Joe and his loved ones are ok.

It was a decent suggestion but as pointed out, it has no place on an international web site such as this. There was an Amber Alert in CA today that was completely different than this one. There is often one a week here. It makes no sense to announce it here since 99% of the participants aren't even in CA.
Instead if people want to know about Amber Alerts they can subscribe to the emails alerts, text message alerts like DD, or by visiting the web site.
DD was completely unreasonable about the whole thing and I hope he has taken the time to pull himself together. |

Huh? His profile still exists. Dirt_Diver
If an amber alert hit closed to home I think he was only trying to make sure all those in the same area were aware of it. |

I know Dirt_Diver suggestion was well intended and could be a reality at DPC. I agree with him that it is a good suggestion. Unlike other [but not all] things an Amber Alert is about time. The sooner you can locate a child that has been abducted the better the results. I can't say what was going through DD mind but I know, from meeting him and talking with him, his suggestion was well intended and would make this site better in some users mind, including mine.
The Amber Alert may go out in KY and some may think that no one in GA, FL, TX, CA, or MA needs to know but that's not true. Within 3-hours a child could be several hundreds of miles away by car, across country by air, and even half way across the Atlantic. So an Amber Alert is not just for a localized area. As I said before I can't speak for DD but I believe I know what he was thinking. If we had such a thread and with 1000's of eyes looking through a lens of a camera each day we as a community may save a life.
Joe don't leave the site, you are very passionate about others and we need that here. I welcome your suggestion.

What may be a suggestion is that the site could (if they wanted to implement a task such as this) is to have alert notices only show up on the pages of members who are relevant to that state/country. If the word was the child was taken to another country then it could be made viewable by all. The person putting up the notice could indicate the country to which this would be relevant by way of a drop down menu when starting the post (which would have its own category in the forums to allow this to happen).
So if I, had a friend whose child went missing in USA...then I even though I am based in Australia...the notice could be made accessible by those only in USA. People could have the option in their Preferences as to whether they want to be alerted by these threads....and they could also have the choice of seeing more than one country.
Yes...children go missing all the time....and this is an issue...and it is up to each individual as to whether they want to be informed or not. They each have their own reasons....there is no need to say what is right or wrong...instead it is about giving people options...and in this case...it is Langdons option as to whether he decides to implement something on this scale.

That is the bottom line that everyone is choosing to ignore. There would have been no harm in people simply saying "send the idea to Langdon and see if it flies".
Instead there is now further polarization of our community which did not need to happen. (and I am by no means blaming NikonJeb because what he said was polite)
