Welcome to this week's "Member of the Week" post. Every week I will post the name of a member and a link to their profile. This will be our Member of the Week. Go have a look at their profile page and/or portfolio. Enjoy their photos, leave some comments and most of all post one or two of their photos in this thread so others can see them and enjoy them. If you like you can also write a little blurb saying why you enjoy this member's photos.

This week's Member of the Week is Gunnar Salvarsson, gsal. And here are a couple of his photos.

Some of the finest and most expressive photography around!!! His Africa series has some of the absolute best...a must see!

Congrats Gunnar and keep up the great work!

Possibly one of the finest photographers to share his work here at DPC - we are very fortunate he likes to do so! He's been doing some amazing stuff in the diptych side challenge - very creative, very well photographed. He has a marvelous eye for people as Mark just pointed out. Really good stuff. If you haven't visited his portfolio, please do so! Immediately!

Also note - he's had a solo exhibition in Iceland, the land of the Northern Lights and an unusually high percentage of amazing photographers:

Here I get the feeling that when gsal raises his camera all things conspire.

Well deserved. I'm a HUGE fan. An Olympus user (!) working mostly with a mid-level body and kit lenses -- there's something to be said for composition yet. Congrats!

PS: Thank you, Gunnar, for also going out of your way to share your shooting settings with those of us who still have a lot to learn. Really helps.

I Always enjoy gsal's work.

Gunnar must be one of the few people who can do powerful evocative shots of two countries as diverse as Iceland and Africa - but tied together through his viewfinder and fascination with people.

So true. That's one of my favorites of his as well.

Honestly, I didn't recognize the name, but when I opened the portfolio I knew exactly who it was. I haven't been to his portfolio in awhile, but looking through his recent challenge entries, I recognized all of them as ones I paused on while looking through those challenges. Very, very memorable photos.

Great choice for Member of the Week, although most of the shots posted here so far are not really Gunnar's best stuff. The posted shots are very good I admit, but 'safe' ... similar to many other people's work, except Gunnar usually does it better.

His very best stuff, however, is often startlingly original, and even more often is wildly underestimated.

Yes! Excellent choice! Gunnar has the ability to connect with his subjects and it comes through in his images. Some of the finest work around! Congratulations! : )

I am flattered and honored... and happy! Just saw the email from KarenNfld today about this tread. And reading these wonderful things just makes me feel so good. I have been more focused on Flickr for the last year but recently I have been enjoying DPC again. I have a very strong friendship with the side, the people here, and the ongoing diptych/triptych theme for February has really called for creativity and challenge. Furhtermore, I have said yes to participating in Iceland´s Olympics team for the DPC Olympics IV starting tomorrow.

Oh, thank you all so much. I´m on cloud nine!
