I haven't commented on 100% in a while, but I am going to do it this time (Having just been laid off, I can't say that I don't have the time). There are a number of very good shots, but an awful lot of snapshot quality ones as well.

I think the challenges where it is relatively easy to enter (who doesn't have access to a pet?) makes it too easy to enter just any old shot without much thought.

I'm so sorry to hear of the lay off. I guess lots of people are finding themselves in that boat, even if only temporarily right now or, fearing having to climb in there too eventually. So many people I know are in that boat! Hoping for you that it's temporary and you'll soon be back at the grind again!

I will tell you - this was not an easy challenge for...... my pet! LOL Two days and many ideas later I entered and I actually switched my entry last minute. Now, of course, I think I should have stayed with what I initally posted. I had more possibilities to enter into this one which made it confusing. I had to ask myself - is it my love for my pet that is making me think this shot is better than what it is?

Did your pet's personality show through in the shot that you chose to enter? Maybe, it's not just your love for your pet but, rather that you saw your pet fully in the shot and decided that the technicals or the traditional look wasn't as important as what you captured in the shot that you entered?

I was in the same boat. I had a number of shots that I could have entered as well. However, the more well polished shots (the great background, the lighting, the focus, the "look" that I know would have done better with voters etc..) just didn't bring out what I had brought out in the one shot that I did enter. It's doing poorly but, I wouldn't have traded it had I had to decide again. :)

I went with a combination of "okay" technicals and personality. However, I am now turning off my computer and doing laundry because this shot is on a roller coaster ride and I'm not buckled in!!

This is a truly ridiculous score for this shot.

It just proves to me what a pack of idiots the voters are.

That's it.

I quit DPC forever.

Suck it.

I know you're probably being sarcastic but that's how I feel about my entry.

Mine dropped almost 1 full point from Vote 25 to Vote 75, but I am seeing a very slow climb back up. Maybe the grumpy folks are done now....

I now have two comments that (thank you commenters for your compliments and critiques), to me, clear up why I might be getting the sub-par scores. Sigh, the world would be sooo much easier if we ALL had monitors set EXACTLY the same. I ran smack into the too light/too dark wall again.

Ah well, going to shut off the scores and then just leave comments over the next couple of days when I have time.

You have rated 93 of 279 images (33%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 2 images (1%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.3441.

The comments given is a number that I CAN control and make higher:-) :-) :-)

It is a sad day when the title controls the viewers vision of the photo, no titles would mean the photo speaks louder.

We should all form a Union and go on strike for higher votes.

OK, now I'm done... I quit DPC forever.

Don't blame the voters - blame your pets on their lack of effort.

If they had just -

1) stayed still
2) stayed in focus
3) struck a pose
4) actually held that pose (see 1)
5) tidied up the background
6) been cute puppies / kittens (or whatever)

You could have won !

I know I'll be blaming my pet . .

:- )

Haha, yeah, I followed my pet around for half a day to get my shot. She never did the one thing I was hoping to catch her doing. But of course she did it first thing this morning.

This is just plain irritating. Ive lost half a point just this afternoon. oh well. There goes any hope to making it to top 10 now

I wouldn't bank on that - looking at the scores from the recent challenges some of them have been lower than you might expect.

eta - besides we're not even 24 hours in yet - many people have not even looked yet.

Comments usually make up for shitty scores for me. If someone takes the time to say something about my picture, I seriously appreciate it, whether it's good or bad.

Well, if I was surprised before I'm flabbergasted now. Surely it won't last, though I'd have to say after 98 (very quick) votes it has probably already set its ball park score. I'm amazed how quickly the scores have come in, already more votes and views than my Brown Ribbon Deja Vu; and seven comments - all really positive too.

I remain amazed - if I were voting on it I'd score it between a 5 and a 6; probably end up on a 6 after a bump (for info I've scored 37 images 7 or higher which says where I think my image sits within the field); however, I'm really pleased people like it.

Well I wasn't going to vote on this challenge as pet pics are not really my thing but after a brief look I saw an outstanding photograph that made me decide to vote on the whole lot.

I suprised myself on how much I liked them.
My average score given is 5.5412.

"Show us a creative portrait of your pet" is the direction I tried to follow. It appears I wasn't successful and can only wish we end the voting now before I sink further. There are a number of great portraits, but many are not too creative. If they are exceedingly cute I bump them up anyway. Just can't help it in this one. My highest scores given are going to the really good, really creative portraits.

Not willing to share my score at the moment, but the scores I get have been so low I reminded of why I am here... to learn!

Somehow I misread the part and chose a less interesting studio attempt than a good action photography. But maybe that wouldn't qualify as a portrait. Doing okay, though. 5.27 something.

Wow - you made me stop and see how many I rated above mine. That would be 61 images better than the score I have right now. That is all 7's 8's, 9's and 10's
