Some people dont get it that a portrait is a portrait, it being in a studio, outdoors or on the moon. Location doesnt matter. |

It does make you stop and think doesn't it.
If the average you give is higher then you receive you feel hard done by and if
it's the other way around you feel guilty.
You just can't win lol. |

I was afraid it was very strict rules about portraits. I have never shot one before. Still kinda fresh! Anyway, I'll have my next portrait on the moon with a new pair of eyes and maybe a lens. Now back to hating myself for being a coward and not submit the rather lovely action-portrait. |

I think a little latitude was given by calling for a creative portrait..

Do you think they would have said 'post a portrait that shows no creativity' or that creativity is ever an optional component? |

I would suggest that 'creativity' suggests more than a 'standard' set portrait . .
Anyway mines currently nosediving with each additional score - so what do I care ?
I'll go and blame the pet some more

I agree but looking after your subject by ensuring that they aren't competing with what video editors would call 'junk' is surely a common element isn't it? Even in environmental portraits the environment has been framed and presented, it isn't just there by accident - at least it shouldn't be. I think I'm very flexible with scoring, I almost always score highly for what I like even if it is a little DNMC, but I don't think there is much of an excuse for not making an effort with composition. People should choose what they place in the frame and not just try to ignore it. So really my initial comments weren't really about studio versus environment, they were about taking responsibility for composition. I'm sorry if my mention of 'household context' seemed to suggest otherwise.
Thanks

Good point. Maybe I should have just assumed creativity is a given and scored accordingly. Creative and well done = good score. Not creative = not so good. Guess thats how I'm scoring anyway. |

Any entry in this challenge should get a 5. If someone has a pet, cares for it & takes a picture of said pet- they get a 5 from me. Enuff said. Animal lover- so shoot me |

I personally think mine is not doing so well because I didn't read the description. I didn't read the word "creative". I don't really know how to make a portrait of a pet creative. Considering I think it takes a lot to just get a pet to sit still and take a nice IN FOCUS portrait of them. Creativity would have gotten my dog to leave me and refuse to have her portrait taken at all. Trust me, I've tried to use her as my subject before, props + dog = disaster. I'm also not a huge prop person anyway. I am frustrated by my score, but figure that the standard portrait isn't going to fly for this challenge. I do hope that my in focus image scores better than poorly shot, out of focus images. Score me low for lack of "creativity", but don't put me in the same category as something shot with an unsteady hand. |

This is a truly ridiculous score for this shot.
It just proves to me what a pack of idiots the voters are.
That's it.
I quit DPC forever.
Suck it. |
Don't leave, I love your work! We need people like you in here to offset the mysterious and blurry imagery (no offense to Posthumous and his groupies) ;-)) |

While it is doing much better than my other recent entries, I am still a bit bummed as I had hoped for at least mid-6 range on my entry. :/ |

Well.....I have cable 'Net now, so I can actually vote a challenge in a couple of hours.
You have rated 277 of 278 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 17 images (6%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.2563.
I gave four 10s and five 9s......I *REALLY* liked what some of y'all have done with your friends!
I'll be curious to see if my top four are anywhere near right.
