I've been studying mixed media photography for some time (beyond moving objects around and pasting objects into a photo). Some photographers still paint their negatives, for instance, or apply other techniques in the darkroom--wet and/or digital.
Here is one example a few of you have seen:
Here, I used the smudge and blur tools to manipulate the clouds. I wanted to make sure it was obvious that an artistic hand had manipulated the photo.
Do any of you have any examples of stuff you've done or have seen? Effective uses of Photoshop filters, etc.? I'd love to hear what techniques you used.

this one was a tough one to do, everything on the picture is real and taken in my garage, fire was created with a ball of aluminum foil and lighter fluid it was suspended in the air with cut cloth hangers, ice was suspended in the same way, paint on my hands are real and enhanced by photoshop with hue and saturation.. i got rid of the aluminium foil and smudged the fire to give it a look as it was coming out of my hands.. everyhting else was erased and burnt..
this is a photo of me blowing some smoke, taken against a black background and inverted. dodged and burnt approproately and finally smudged to give it the feel that the smoke or fire was coming out of my head...
with this one i basically put a gradient over it...nothign too special
a picture of my hand, again it was inverted and dodged and burnt appropriately..
this one was achieved by sharpening, adjusting curves, hue and saturation and contrast and brightness adjustments, i burnt and dodged some places but dodgind and burning wasnt the main technique used here...

The most interesting multi-media stuff I have seen recently is from a local painter/photographer. She takes a photograph of 'part' of something. She mounts this photo to a canvas and paints in the remaining parts of the scene with a bit of an abstract twist. The effect created by this method is very visually stimulating. |
