People should go to bed. I've only had 2 votes in the last hour plus and they were both 4's. *snifflepout*

I WAS right there with Judi until they hit :(

Really hope that a photo of a grey/gray subject has a precedent over Gray scale or desat. as gray is a color the same as RED Green Blue,

If you had to resort to color grey because you couldn't capture grey then just get back on the short bus and stop wasting everyone's time.

Challenge Description: Capture the color grey somehow.

The color grey is obviously what is being asked for, here. It is vague on taking any color shot and converting to grayscale, since it opens the door with "somehow". But shooting some subject that is grey to the naked eye is implied.

Correct. I think I'm gonna vote all images converted to black and white a 1 for DNMC because they don't contain the color grey, but only shades of black and white.

I Agree the principle word in the description is CAPTURE if they wanted a conversion they would have said create.

This is what happens when you do what the details say Capture the color gray, and voters think you have converted it to gray scale or desaturated. So much for photography.

In the interests of trying to improve my average this year, I decided to pull my entry for this one. I'm very glad now, after reading this thread. It seems that grayscale converters are voting down the colour grays, and vice versa! My colour gray would have been eaten alive, I'm sure :)

Good luck all!

Hoping that it will reach 5. If some Norwegian guys see it they're in for little laugh.

I see many of you say things like: "First I got a 4, then a 3 followed by a 5 etc". Do you calculate that on your own, or do you actually see what you got somewhere?

Three new votes all of a sudden an my average went up almost 0.07 points. That's good, is it not?

That score is just plain wrong! My image isn't nearly that good - it is beating my Free Study entry which is sooo much better..
02/02/2009 07:26:28 AM · #66
Well mine sucks apparently! Its a colour shot of a grey subject, which to me isnt that bad a shot either!!

Some really good entries I have seen so far - both b&w ones and colour greys..

I guess this is doing about how I expected. I had a shot that was probably more gray, but I liked this one much better, even though I figured it probably bordered on DNMC for some people...

Grey is a color whether it's in black and white or not. There are plenty of shots NOT converted to greyscale that still look black and white, naturally. There are probably plenty of voters feeling like they can tell, just by looking, especially when they're voting.

I think mine is getting voted down for the same reason mine always get voted down.

This is how I see it. You were supposed to take a picture of something that is really grey. Not convert to black and white or desaturate to grey. If I saw one that is plain to see was converted or a desat you got below a 5. All pictures I thought were done badly that are real grey or not got below a 5. If it is real grey you got a 5 and I will sort through them later to pick what I think is the best from those.

This was the hardest challenge to not only enter but to vote on. My own is a 5.5 which is going back to my usual scores so I am not unhappy. At least for the h2h it wont hurt my average any. I think some people think mine was converted to and that makes it hard for me but I did get two nice comments that dont mention they think it was converted or desaturated. I just think my score makes me believe some voters think it was.

sempermarineyou posted a 7.5 after 2 votes. Mine is a 5.5 after 30+ votes. What do you have now? You may have this point for the h2h but it is early yet. I am right now thinking you will have this point and I will get the point for the open challenges. We may be tied at the end of this round. hahahah.

You have me this time around. Dropped to a 4.4 after 30 votes. I also did not convert to black and white. BTW, I won't be entering a begin or end shot for lack of imagination. :)

Is everybody in a bad mood or something? All of my entries, albeit maybe not my best shots ever, are going from bad to worse scorewise and with no comments. This is dis-heartening. Oh well, I have a new free study to work on. Onward and upward!!!

I have only looked at the pictures in this challenge, no voting yet. But, I worked very hard to post something in full color. I'm with you on how to vote for this topic.
