As perhaps an interesting data point, my one accepted for 2009 (I'm figuring on one a year in the "accept" column) had the following feedback:

"Of those who voted against your image, eight indicated that there is a problem with composition, five noted impact as a weakness and two selected technical quality as a reason for not publishing the image."

The little bar thingie showed about 65% yay to nay.

This one was just rejected

I re-edited to back off the saturation a tad. One of the comments said it needed more color.

Again, the popularity meter was at 50%, maybe a tad under.

I noticed there is on option to upload an improved version of a rejected image. Has anyone done this? Does the image go back into screening if you do?

You can upload a revised version - I tried that with the Afghani girl after posting it for critique. Never made it to screening the second time. I think unless there is a SIGNIFICANT change, the screeners have a tendency to reject outright without putting it to vote again.

Did this a couple times. The only thing more infuriating than getting rejected is getting rejected twice, especially when the follow-up is an attempt to cater to someone else's vision. Ugh.

Agree. May be why it's called 1x. You only get one shot at it. :)

Accepted at 1x.

Rejected at 1x for editing.

I saw your nude Jenn and didn't realize it was your shot. The funny thing is, on the thumb, at first, her arms looked to me like legs and I just thought "those are the funniest shaped breasts ever! Some surgeon did a hack job." It makes more sense when I realize what goes where... :)

Nice... I saw this on the front page...congrats ;-)

Saw the nude in screening. loved it.

Didn't see the other one. I'll bet is was the blue in the eyes on the editing issue.

I'll throw another shrimp on the barbie.

Editing was the bullet reason.

I did! haha. Then, when I opened it up and realized how it was oriented, I was still caught by what I thought was left-over editing marks. Then it hit me, it was the background nipple. DOH!

I voted 'publish' to try and build up some karma with the color gods. Probably got binned as soon as I hit Apply. Sorry man.

Ya, I noticed black is back. 9/10 B&W in latest addition with 1 monotone sepia.
01/20/2009 02:50:15 PM · #316
I voted to publish that one, too, Richard. I still like it.

Their head guy over there Jacob is probably already writing the script...

if ($voter == 'DPCer') {
$vote_weight = -25%
}

:P

LOL. I thought I cropped that out. Did the beam me up, orange light give it away? Crap.

Thanks Richard. maybe I'll give that one a shot. I also have a couple others in mind. I'm not giving up -- I'm making it a personal challenge .... Right my account info says: Upload slots: 1
Free slots: -2

I'm thinking that means I have to wait to submit again; until free slots show a number? But I don't really understand what upload slots means ... BTW I really enjoy your work.

Rejected! Because of "editing"...lol only editing was b/w conversion and cloned out a sign. Pfft!

I noticed they seem to have dropped the upload slots to one per week. Wonder if this is because of the overwhelming uploads from DPCers.
01/20/2009 04:17:21 PM · #323
You're "allowed" upload slots based on your acceptance rate. If your acceptance rate is low, you'll get to one upload slot a week. You have to wait for that to be free to upload again. If your acceptance rate is good, you get more upload slots.

If you want more upload slots than what you are "allowed" based on acceptance, you can buy a membership. I figure one a week is plenty, thanks. :-)

Well, I joined up, and I'm 0-for-1 right now, rejected for editing, natch. Can't show the image 'cuz a similar one's in voting right now on here.

Well, someone put me up to it, but this photo was rejected...

I should feel honored that I got a special note about it though... :)

I cancelled my account. Does that mean I rejected them?

BTW: I should make it clear I'm not cancelling just because of this rejection. I sorta suspected it would go down like this, but I was curious what would happen. I also don't have anything against 1x. I just think they are not a means to get where I want to go personally. That doesn't mean there aren't excellent photogs over there and that it could be an excellent tool for people who want to excel in that genre.
