It would appear that there has been much conversation the forums lately re liquid drops/splashes that may or may not have been shoehorned into different challenges. They always looks great, but lets get them out of our system with a challenge specifically for drops/splashes. Those that have been critical will get a chance to find out how difficult they are to do. Similarly, those that enter them for almost every challenge, no matter what the title, will no longer have an excuse.

No description required, just the title!

I second that as I just played about with eggs and milk. None of them that great, but it was messy and fun and I did learn not to place on any surface you don't want splashed

Should have been done a long time ago

I say give it a go and let the beautiful and talented Scot folk (that may or may not be living in Germany) enter (and ribbon) just to show the rest of us that shoehorn or not. . . It's all about talent and beautiful shots! :)

Well, I hope the winner would be someone who was nice to everyone in the forums, in addition to being very talented.

What has this got to do with what image should win...if an image is technically sound...then it should stand on its own...not be determined by how someones behaviour is or isn't seen in the forums.

Hmmmm, Splash shots... shoehorn... Ya know, my average score could go up if I didn't keep getting these great ideas for gag shots.

It seems that you have either missed or misunderstood the point. Unless someone has shared their entry with us, we don't know which image belongs to which photographer during voting. So, of course the "best/most popular" images will rise to the top without regard for photographer identity.

I absolutely reserve my right to be extra pleased when someone I think is very nice, both in public and in private, also wins a ribbon for shooting a great image.

Yes...I did miss your point. The way you wrote your post was misleading. To me, it read that if you didn't feel the winner was of good standing in the forums and in their personal life then they don't deserve to win a photographic contest. That made absolutely no sense.

Yes it is your right to be extra pleased when you like the winner as a person....but I see many winners that I don't feel are a good person in the forums and/or private but I still feel that they have put in the effort to get the ribbon, therefore they still deserve a pat on the back. That is my opinion and my right to have that opinion.

Really? It seems like a mountain is being made out of a molehill now.

We should probably stay on topic here.

Drop shots are fun to try, but hard to do successfully. I think it would be a great challenge idea!

Kingskingdom...I think it would be a great idea. The people who are the most critical of those shots will find out just how difficult it is to do. Bring it on!!!

Hahaha....and a bit of bull in the background should suffice for the girls.....and some of the guys on here, I am sure!!!

I seriously think this challenge would be a great challenge....and I can't wait to see it on the front page.

My beer dropped and splashed all over my camera. That count?

Though I think the challenge would be interesting, the slightest inference that this topic would be used as a "spanking" for those who are critical of the "splash" shot is nonsensical. I, for one, agree it is difficult but I'll be the first to say it is "over displayed" of late. I'll confess as well that I am one of those who try to exhibit every smidgen of goodness from the random and infrequent images I capture. Along with that, I'll concede my forum persona may be terse and unworthy of the higher echelons of "DPC forum culture" but ..... who gives a damn anyhow.

That said, we may consider the Librodo, Joey Lawrence and of course, the Whiterook challenge to demonstrate how difficult their techniques are as well. Damn all those who are critical of their styles! Why cant we just love each other for who we think each of us should be?? lol

I've shot over 200 images, and didn't have a keeper that I was happy with. Who suggested this ridiculous challenge anyway? :)

It wasn't the lighting it was the co-ordination that didn't seem to work. 5D's are great, except for frames per second, particularly when you combine it with really, really bad co-ordination.

Irene your many crowns are safe from me, and I am convinced that you have four arms to accomplish what you do. I couldn't manage one decent shot......not that I've given up....yet, but I'm would like to get just one decent crown for the old portfolio...
