Here you go:

If you really think you are going to get into the muck, take the camera strap off so you can close the bag completely.

Very cool. How would you control humidity though? Wouldn't it still sweat in the bag?

I don't think so. Condensation is a product of temperature differentials rather than absolute humidity. The bag is not insulated enough to keep the camera at some different temperature so it shouldn't sweat.

Coolio, thx Dr.

A photo is worth⦠Thanks, doc.

The waves are really kicking up against the offshore Orford Reef. Spray is going halfway up Arch Rock (42°46â40.35âN, 124°35â50.61âW) which is about 150 feet tall. That is fairly unusual. Right now itâs hailing too.

You might think about getting one of the Olympus or Panasonic(?) P&S cameras which are truly waterproof -- I think for about $350 you can get one which can go down to ten feet underwater.

What he said. I been doing this for what, 20+ years and it has never been an issue.

Wow...wow...wow. I just got back. Did I tell you I decided to go? It was worth all 5+ hours of driving for 40 minutes of shooting. I haven't looked, but I'm quite positive I'll have a Best of 2008 in there. They are downloading as I type.

You should give a print to whoever covered your on-call hours ... :-)

We don't want the whole bone, just a niblet ;)

Was it more amazing than your recent blue ribbon winning shot?

Yes, I don't think I'll be breathing that air for a while. I was as high as 7.98 as late as Saturday, but that elusive 8.0 was not to be.

Now that the Free Study is over I can share a few more pictures from that great day. The waves were enormous with the spray hitting eighty feet. Then the sun came out for a wonderful sunset. The only thing I don't like about the photos is there is no context for size. Waves and shorelines appear to be fractal in that you could trick yourself into thinking these waves are maybe 10 feet high instead of 80. The surf on the sea looks foamy, but does it really look to be swells of 20 feet as reported by the weather buoy?

My FS Entry:

My FS Entry:

For context in terms of size, you need to wait until the stupid people go walking out there, thinking it will be neat to get sprayed. Just have 911 ready to dial on the cell phone.

those are all gorgeous shots ... I'm jealous that you've got scenery like that to shoot ... the Great Lakes are beautiful, but there isn't any coast line like that for me to shoot ...

A few shots before my FS entry I have a less impressive wave, but a guy in a yellow rain slicker standing at the fence. I so wished I could have cloned him in because he stood out awesome and provided that exact context I wanted.

They say several wrecked ships are supposed to surface from the sand this year on the Oregon coast. They might say that every year though, I don't know.

Some beautiful shots there Doc!! great Job! you need to get out like that more often. last year I went out for several "day trips" that I left from Calgary to Banff to Lake Louise to Emerald Lake back track a bit and up to the Columbia Galcier and 3/4 the way to Jasper then back home to Calgary only to come out with a couple shots that I liked/kept... lol approx 8 to 12 hours on the road :P

So now I find the drive to say Lake Louise (about 2.5 hours) like driving to the grocery store lol, actually come to think about it might make a trip out to Louise this weekend :) I need the break...

Actually they are finding all sorts of things that were previously not unearthed - last year was a good year too. I think given the current winds/weather - Spring will yield some finds (if not sooner)
