Went to a WWII reenactment over the weekend with my local Flickr meetup group. One participant in the event had done a very nifty hack in order to maintain his period appearance. He hacked an old rangefinder (he says it was of little value) and put a modern digital P&S inside it. Cutouts for the lens, screen, shutter and power buttons.

The next day one of our members was contacted by the group that puts this reenactment on. They asked us if next year our group would like to participate as "war correspondents". Each of us would be outfitted in period appropriate gear and assigned to different units involved in the "battle". We've already penciled it in.

Make sure you find one with a working focal plane shutter or at least with one that can be repaired, that way, you can mount just about any lens you want.

They also had a "rapid fire" film holder that would let you load 5 or so sheets of 4x5 film and cycle through them by pulling the slide out and back in. It was kind of a PITA to load, but worked quite well.
