 This participant in a WWII battle recreation wanted to have a camera with him, but maintain the period appearance. He put a modern digital camera inside a period rangefinder. (He said it was one of little value)

That's cool. I don't see you being able to do that with your Rebel though. Maybe switch to one of these.
