Let me set this matter to rest. I am the commenter that many are commenting about. I am not trying to take anyone's score down. In fact, the average score I gave was a 6.2!
First - I had forgotten I had changed my profile to be hidden during voting, but the reason is because I would get messaged with all kinds of explanations. I have comments on my entries that show that some just "do not get it" but I do not email them with any kind of excuses. I leave it be and will explain my image after voting is over.
Next, I do need a better way of commenting. Putting it into categories is just easiest for me. I thought it was obvious that 5 categories at 2 each added up to 10. Perhaps not.
If any of you have suggestions for better categories, by all means, please share.
Ingrid

Keep doing what your are doing, I have received a few of your comments & I can sort of figure out what areas you like & not like about my image. I guess others that are a little negarive about the way you rate may be looking more for suggestions/ways on how to improve the image further & maybe a little more description on your categorization. Also being "hidden" did not help.

I don't mind it and I figured it out just fine. I like that you are obviously taking the time to actually LOOK at the images and give feedback. Very nice.

I've received a few of your comments. They work for me. Keep doing your own thing.

No.....do it whatever way works for you.

People b*tch all the time about not getting comments.....then they b*tch about the ones they do get.

If you are motivated to leave commentary, explanations, score breakdowns, WHATEVER.....you are doing WAY more than most.

Keep up the good work.

BTW, I've gotten comments from you and I appreciate them.

Thank you!.....8>)

I agree with NikonJeb. Any meaningful comment is welcome -- numeric, verbal, or combined.

Evaluation of images can be a slippery topic to pin down. Categories that are very important for some images don't even apply to others. Example, the artistic quality of a color image may be greatly affected by the qualities of the colors (hue, brightness, saturation)and the spatial relationships between the colors, while a black and white image depends on other characteristics. Pick and choose: line, balance, framing, sharpness, dynamic range, depth of field, quality of light, mood, message, emotional impact, creativity, fit to challenge topic, humor, and on and on. Art books and courses are good sources of different approaches.

If looking to expand effectivness of verbal commenting, take a look at the profiles of some of the winners of the YAPPIE award (OOBIE and YAPPIE The Saga Continues), then click on their "comments made" number to browse through what they have contributed. Some of them are downright inspirational.

Meanwhile, back on topic for a scoring thread:

Thought this was going to do better. Oh well, could be worse.

I'm certainly testament to that. hehe.

I recieved the comment too. And a first glance it's disappointing, but then you go back and look at it again and you can see that you actually got a constructive comment out of it. So keep commenting the way you do!

BUT....i love playing devils advocate, so lets have some fun shall we? Here is the comment break down.

Meets Challenge 2
Technicalities 2
Interestingness 1
Out of the Box
Personal Bias
Total = 5

Now most make sense...but how do you score a 0 in personal bias...shouldn't that always be either a positive number or maybe a negative number? And wouldn't interestingness be apart of personal bias.....since how interesting it is, is based of your personal bias? lol. I'm just messing around....(i'm actually bored at work already!)

So you're saying that an image can't be interesting without it appealing to you personally?......8>)

My shot is completely uninteresting and technically not that great but it's a DPC friendly subject, so I have a 5.5 average on a shot that really should be 4something. Not complaining like, just find it kinda amusing.

It made it over the 6 mark for a little bit, but has fallen back down.
