so if sports are a game, can war, which might be considered a game for some, be a sport? |

I need to get going on posting on comments...but EXCITING FACT! One of the shots on Taylor's website (it's the first one, with the guy holding the bball at arm's length) is the same as one of my shots, except from a slightly different angle! This means I'm getting awesome at timing.
In sad news, our main photographer's camera died :( so hopefully he'll get a new one soon. |

Covered the #1 ranked team in the nation tonight in womens division 1 NJCAA basketball. This local team is just amazing, most games they win by 50 or more points. In the last three years they are 63-8.
Yeah so I cheat when I shoot at this college. I use my studio strobes fired from the upper deck. :D

Due to a combination of lack of photography time, having 12 hour night shifts and the recent downturn in weather, I've come to the unfortunate conclusion that it will be impossible for me to get my feet wet in this side challenge like I had wanted to. Seriously- I even tried hunting down people doing ANY sport: mountain bikers, pickup basketball, road cycling... I almost went so far as to photograph the lone joggers around town, but stopped short of that one. Anyway, if I get lucky I might get one or two before months end. So the good news for everybody is that since I'm not providing any images, I figure I might as well make up for it by commenting on every single photo. WOO!

Hey MattO, on your comment for hajeka, what did you mean when you referenced what you would do with full-frame vs. APS-C in regards to the horizon? |

My comment has nothing to do with the type of camera. My comment was in referencing if he had cropped it, or it was as shot. If its full frame(ie as shot) then cropping wouldnt have been possible. However if it was shot looser then he could crop and straighten at the same time.

I had lots of room to crop, but not at the top. Here's the straightened version.

The other photographer got this exact same shot and it ran in our newspaper! This might mean I'm awesome.

I had grand plans of shooting a couple of different weeks for this side challenge, but "my" boys didn't go quite as far into the playoffs as everyone expected. :)
The shots with a "L" beside them were shot with a 70-200 f/4L and the others were shot with the incredibly slow (by comparison) 70-300 f/4 - 5.6. I have no idea what the one with the ??? was shot with.

Ok, finally found some time to go and shoot! This is the second time I have shot hockey and I found it harder this time as they seem to move around so much faster than 8 weeks ago!! I couldn't seem to get into a good position despite moving around the side lines.
I tried some new things from feedback from my previous hockey shoot. I knelt down for a lot of the shots to get lower, I think I should have tried sitting though! I also used a battery grip so I could shoot some portrait shots. All shot in av wide open (for the lens!) controlling the shutter by changing the ISO as the light changed. minimal pp work, some cropping and a little levels was all.

Bobonacus this looks like a very tuff sport to shoot. Lot's of action and seems hard to isolate any one subject.
I would love to try it some day. |
