I took lots of pictures at San Diego Wild Animal Park the day before these. However with all the talk about zoo shots I decided I'd better get something out in the wild. Anyway, most anyone, anywhere can get "wildlife" pictures of birds, and that's what I concentrated on. After seeing other entries and near-winners not meeting the challenge description maybe I should have submitted a park picture.
What I submitted that really bombed.
Outtakes that may have done somewhat better.

Had another deer shot that I would have liked to enter too but choose the one with the nicer light. |

You had a nice variety to choose from...you made the right choice with your entry. It's a lovely shot. |

I didn't have much to choose from. Shooting with a 30 year old fully manual lens = HARD. hehe. At least I have Happy Harold's Happy Raptor Hut that I can return to now and then if I ever get a better lens. |

Had these to choose from. The last was a bit high on the gross factor. :)

I was dithering between this one:
And my ill-fated entry, which I loved but which ended up absolutely tanking:

Unfortunately Bear I think that was the choice, as the outtake IMHO is a far better shot and there is zero noise on it unlike the entry, I suspect the outtake would have scored really well :(
ETA: I notice that in another thread you chose to use noise to artist effect, I guess you know way better than I do that, that was simply asking for trouble here ;) I guess though in some shots it would not be so crippling yet in others it would be detrimental.
I did not score that challenge so do shoot the messenger ;)

He-he. Interesting how diverse the community is and what is "seen" by all of us as unique individuals...
The outtake is a nice shot. Very colorful...and therein is a minor problem IMO. The bird gets lost a little in all of that sparkle. Of the two, I prefer your entry substantially more. Also, the outtake is more static than the other. I like the sense of movement and diagonals in the one you submitted for the challenge. |

Indeed :)
I just think that in the outtake the eye / head and beak are tack sharp and it doesn't look that way in the entry, plus there is something in its mouth that looks over saturated.
I also love the movement in the water in the outtake I think that really adds to the image, but as you say each to their own, how boring would it be if we all liked the same thing :) |

I meant to come back on comment on this...I think this shot here would've scored higher than your entry.
The otter is a nice shot, but I'd suspect many thought it was a zoo shot. This, while technically a possible "captive" shot, shouts out as a wonderful, colorful image that is more likely "wild". Lovely capture! |
