Just a friendly reminder that the OP just wants a bit of help and nothing more.

If you can take the time to leave a comment that is good enough for me. As far as I am concerned nobody was out of line on this thread so lets stop arguing. |

I'm just curious if the OP made any promises of products / prints / digital files, etc. (sorry if I missed that detail somewhere)
Seems several people are suggesting that prints and/or albums be made, and that is fine... if the customer has or will pay for them. But why give the neighbor a bunch of stuff for free, when he may be perfectly happy with the work already performed? Why not do the best you can in a reasonable amount of time, let him see the work, then gauge his response?

This is a quick edit of the photo you sent me. Not the one I was looking at. I wanted the last one you posted. But I'll send you back a color and BW of this via e-mail, you can look at. A simple single click adjustments and I dont really see an issue with the one you sent. I'd really like to see the last one that you posted with all the noise.

I think this is great but could use a tighter crop to more focus on the bride and groom IMO. |
Or just add a vignette. I'd use an oval one on this pic, or a "custom" one that let the runner (white cloth on the rug) remain "un-vignetted".
And you can probably throw in a heart-shaped vignette on some other picture also.
Also, matting doesn't have to be rectangular. You can use an oval cutout (or oval "frame" in PS) -- or heart shaped, or other shape.

wow this thread is crazy.....
here is the full story I was outside letting my dog take a dump . my neighbor walks up to me and says he has a job for me. I am caught by complete suprise and ask...what? He says he wants me to take pictures of his dads wedding and says he will give me 45 bucks to do it. I say I think I can do it ,but try to think of a excuse to get out of it. Anyways I say yes sure..just take pictures no prints he will do that himself...I have done some weddings before but that was in the film age. I know what apeture and iso is and what not. I set my iso for 400 but for some reason or another I switch from manual to potrait setting forgetting that it decides your iso for you. any who I am gonna work with what I got and give them the pictures if they don't like them then they don't have to pay me anything. I was also gonna make them a slideshow dvd ..... I am also gonna offer to do some family pictures for free.....................sound reasonable?????????
ALso on another note I really don't like taking pictures of people I much rather take pictures of roadkill, ovens and trees...............

Actually, I would NOT immediately offer a free portrait session. It will look as though you are apologizing or trying to make up for some perceived wrongdoing. Finish this transaction first, then consider that later.
If you'd like to attempt family or portrait work, consider working with a model instead of giving away your potential earnings to what SHOULD become your paying clientele. That may seem strange at first, but let everyone believe that your WORK has value (ie - don't give it away for free, then expect to collect money later.) Either you are in business, which has costs to recoup... or you are 'not good enough to charge money'. See the difference in how people might view you?
regardless, good luck, and let us know how it turns out. :)

If they ask you to do the photos of the new baby you'll know for sure they liked the wedding shots. |
