Hi Everyone,
I've been a photographer for many a year, and have been almost exclusively a Flickr'ite for the last 5. I'm excited to on this site, and I look forward to submitting some photos.
Now to my question... The rules state that all entries MUST be taken between the announcement of the challenge and the submission deadline. But given how short that timeline is, it's hard for me to believe all of the submissions were so recently taken. Is this rule 'soft'??? Can we pull photos from our archives to submit? Maybe I'm confused?
Thanks for your help,
Vrod |

"The rules state that all entries MUST be taken between the announcement of the challenge and the submission deadline"
It can be difficult, but there is no exception to this rule.

Hi Vrod... welcome to DPC!
The dates rule is absolutely hard. EXIF data is checked for accuracy, and there are no exceptions. Without that, they would not be "challenges".
That is what drives the spirit of this site - it's all about timing and execution.
Good luck & have fun! :O) |

Welcome to the site.
As stated above, EXIF is verified, so you must have your camera's date/time set properly and retain the original, unedited photo.

That strict timeline is part of the fun (and stress of DPC).
I absolutely love DPC. Don't be afraid to have questions. Get involved with leaving comments and just have fun shooting and learning, cuz that's what it's all about.
Welcome! |

The only real 'soft' rule that I know of is that you can submit a zoo picture to a wildlife challenge...

Now, I know you're joking, but let's clarify for this newcomer shall we?
Challenge descriptions are NOT rules. The End. You'll never get disqualified for not following them (unless posted otherwise). You'll run into voter trouble if you don't, but that's a whole different can of worms.
Welcome to DPC and the fun-house. |

Yeah, he's cool. You, on the other hand, Colette, are a different story. Didn't your visa expire? :P |

That's right, vrod, you won't see this kind of inane banter anywhere else! :)

second thoughts? It's too late for second thoughts. The man already knows the border guard and some of our rules. He can't have second thoughts! Death is the only way out (well death and a village burning but that's someone else all together) ;)
p.s. welcome aboard...how about a link to your flickr stuff or are you chicken? lol j/k

Hi VRod, and welcome.
I have found that the time limits are not hard to meet and are very stimulating. The challenges keep me thinking all through the week. The ideas, and not the photos, are often what I find hard to manage within the time frame. While some folks skip challenges that do not inspire them, I try to enter as many as possible. This has taken me out of my comfort zone, and has stretched me as a photographer. I have learned a lot through these exercises. For me, it is not about winning, or a prize, it is about trying new things and improving. |

Welcome Vrod;
For those images that are taken on vacation or otherwise not easy to fit into a 1 week challenge we usually have a Free Study every month you can enter these images. And usually in January there is a best of the current year challenge with a one year qualifying spread of dates.
Don't let Art or Slippy scare you they're really teddy bears. Or in Arts case a rather large Woody! |

Ok, I was challenged by sabphoto to share my Flickr account... Instead of boring you all with my entire collection, here's a pointer to my favorite few photos from last year's trip to China:
//www.flickr.com/photos/kforman/sets/72157600802900398/
There's a few in there I'm very proud of, a few not so much, but it shows my style. I would GREATLY appreciate any thoughts on the photos. I have a thick skin and am constantly trying to improve as a photographer, so please feel free to offer suggestions or even just tell me to 'hang it up' if I've lost my touch. I live for feedback!
Now that I've finished voting on a few competitions, I'm certainly not in league with most of you GREAT photographers. I think I can come up with a few photos worthy of entry, but if I ever got a coveted ribbon, I'd be amazed, astounded, and humbled.
And thanks for all the warm (and wacky) welcomes. |
