When we came to a house with a McCain sign, my kids said, "We don't want to go to that house, they like McCain and McCain's mean."

Gee. How surprising.

Yeah, it's amazing how some kids form accurate opinions about politicians.

I'm not impressed when I see little kids at holding political signs or otherwise parroting their parents' opinions. It's a shame that politics has to enter into Trick-or-Treating.

I just voted. If you haven't yet, get out there and do it!

The First Election Results Are in Already
The polls have already closed in Dixville Notch, NH because all 21 eligible voters have cast their ballots. This village of 75 people traditionally opens the polls at midnight on election day and closes them a few minutes later after the last voter has performed his or her civic duty. Barack Obama got 71% of the vote here today. Dixville Notch is not a good bellwether, however; it has voted solidly Republican for decades. The last Democrat to carry the Notch was Hubert Humphrey in 1968. It is probably not a good start for McCain to have early election day news dominated by a story about a solidly Republican rural village voting overwhelmingly for Obama.

Why? Do you think kids should grow up ignorant of how the political system works? Maybe lock them in the closet every election year? Do you think children aren't affected by the leadership of this country and should have no right to express their opinion?

No matter who is elected? lol

I vote for Mickey! He tells no lies.

How did you get that from my post? I'm glad you are voting for my candidate, but you do seem to be one of the more volatile Dems on this site!

You're correct in saying that Dixville Notch is not a true indicator of the outcome. In 1968 Republican Richard Nixon would have been unduly concerned about the Notch's vote for Hubert Humphrey - after all, he did end up beating Humphrey by 110 electoral votes ( 301 to 191 ). If I were a McCain supporter, I would hope that the hype about the outcome in Dixville Notch would be sufficient to lead many Obama supporters to feel that their candidate had such a vast majority that they didn't need to actually go to the polls themselves today. If I were Obama, I'd be concerned about that.

Sure is. The problem is that the parents can't.

McCain scares me. Scares me bad. I understand why he would scare you or your kids. What I can't understand is how anyone could even fathom that a man who was in the Senate for only 2 years before running for President is qualified to run this country? I understand why people would think he is the better choice of the two given but all this gushing over Obama is ridiculous. The fact that the Democrats shoved this in our face as the best person for the job just goes to show that they are every bit as stupid as the Republicans are for choosing some idiot from Alaska as VP.

I'm voting for Barr. Not because I agree with his policies or even think he has a chance, but for the fact that if more Americans would stop settling for 2 jerkoffs every 4 years we might get 3 jerkoffs to choose from. Who knows, in 50 years we might have a dozen jerkoffs with a viable chance of winning.

You forgot to mention that 1968 was the last time they voted for a Democrat. Until now.

Must be tough to be a right-winger these days, watching your policies fail miserably for 8 years until you become so unpopular that even Republican disenfranchisement and fearmongering can't win an election. Thank goodness they still hand you Talking Point Rationalizations, or you might have to change your mind.

If that 2 years spent in the US Senate were Obama's only qualification, sure... I prefer to look at the whole picture, not just their employment as elected officials at the Federal level, and what I see makes a very clear distinction between the two candidates. At this point in the evolution of the US political system, voting for the 3rd party candidates is like saying the Toledo Mud Hens are going to win the World Series. They just aren't in the same league.

Obama won the primaries with more that 18 million votes from Democrats, Independents and Republicans from a field of all very well qualified candidates. He inspires people to hope for and believe in a better America. Read this article on the christian science monitor - //www.csmonitor.com/2008/1103/p09s02-coop.html

I wonder what makes an 8-year member of the house of Representatives so much more qualified than a professor of constitutional law who served 2 years in the senate? If anything, I would expect anyone holding the reins for most or all of the past 8 years to be exactly who we DON'T want running the country! Oh, never mind. I found it... "During his tenure, Barr was regarded as one of the most conservative members of Congress. In 2002, he was described as "the idol of the gun-toting, abortion-fighting, IRS-hating hard right wing of American politics." If Barr's candidacy had presented any credible threat, I suspect the McCain campaign would have eaten him alive for graduating high school in Tehran. :-/

I'll give you one reason ... several weeks (months?) ago ago, I heard David Brooks (conservative columnist for the NY Times) remark on how smoothly and efficiently the Obama campaign was being run -- no infighting, no leaks, superb organization, intelligent and thoughtful advisors who didn't advocate changing positions with each new set of poll numbers. A few days ago, I read of another conservative campaign honcho saying almost exactly the same thing.

Now, the current administration has been trying hard to convince us that the country should be run like a corporation, with the President as CEO. No President can enact reform alone -- despite the attempts of the GOP the President still lacks most monarchcal powers. It seems to me that Mr. Obama has amply demonstrated -- and better than the incumbent or the Republican nominee -- the organizational and leadership skills required of the Chief Executive to get anything actually done....

Barr is a pretty big jerkoff in his own right. Bigger than McCain/Obama/Palin/Biden combined.

I guess some were too busy baa baaing to see the fact that I said I didn't agree with his policies and they aren't the reason I'm voting for him.

Oh well.

I understand why you voted for him.

I just don't think that's the way to break away from 2 party rule.

I prefer voting for the lesser of two evils as opposed to pure evil.

That reminds me of the last scene in the movie "Time Bandits" where Kevin shouts to his parents, "Mum, Dad! It's Evil! Don't touch it!". Of course they ignore him and touch it anyway, reducing them to two small piles of ashes.
