ive just looked at my entry for a challenge on a CRT screen as opposed to an laptop screen and noticed its not as contrasty.

What do the majority of users here use?

I use an LCD, Harry. Many users notice differences between CRT and LCD monitors; many times it comes down to calibration. :)

I only have flat panel LCD's these days. How old is your CRT? I know that some prefer CRT's for their color reproduction, but they tend to lose image quality with age.

Is it calibrated? I definitely see a difference in subtle shading between my calibrated monitor at work and the one at home. A calibration device for home is on my short list for the near future.

There are differences between LCD and CRT even on the best calibrated monitors of both types. It's just bound to be.

I'd imagine, however, that with the low prices of LCDs today and the fact that you can't even *buy* a CRT in most electronic stores now, that a good majority of people are using an LCD. Don't take that as set in stone, but I really can't imagine CRTs still being that widespread.

Thanks very much for the help, our CRT is about 7 years old but probably older.

I use an LCD for photoshop and other image editing programs.
