Ok,here is the problem with this:
1 Digital art ,not a photography is the winner!
2 Manipulation with the scores on April 1 where after first 25 votes my score was 7.4 than dropped to 4.7,to go back to 5,7 on April second!
3 Only 185 votes out of 310 photos submitted?
Conclusion:
This challenge should be nullified and re-done for fairness reason to everyone involved here!

Love your work P Man and DsSid's as well, but you need to stop drinking so hard at night, man. (C: You are a mean drunk!
Aren't all the things that were done to the picture available in a film darkroom?

I don't consider the winner to be digital art... no more than your Sedona image is.

Not digital art, IMO. A beautifylly crafted image.
I didn't enter, but voted on 98% of the entrants. I can't speak for anyone else. |

1. Disagree - Tracy's point is valid - all darkroom tools
2. All of that disappeared at midnight, and has no bearing on your score. it just so happened that the next 160 voters didn't like it as much as the first 25.
3. Agreed. some voters (Pedro included) did not vote on all the images. BAD Pedro, BAD.
Conclusion? suck it up dude. the right picture won, and the rest prolly ended up about where they should have. |

Actually, neither of the first two were questions, they were statements (or exclamations). Maybe if your questions are phrased more politely, your answers will be too.

My sentiments exactly! After reading Pitsa's post, the response that came to mind was "Quitcherbitchin Kosta! I for one am happy to take second to David's beautifully executed (and edited) photograph"

I totally disagree; David's post-processing was exactly the intent of the Advanced Editing rules -- to take a picture and make it "the best it can be". (David: Bravo!) As always, if you don't like the Advanced Editing rules, then you don't have to participate in the Advanced Editing challenges.

There was no "manipulation" of the scores. The code that displayed your score was rigged to show a progressively lower score if the date was "2004-04-01". Once the date went to the 2nd, that code was no longer executed, and your "real" score was displayed, as usual.

Don't blame me, I voted on all 310 images and didn't even have an entry.

I liked David's image but I didn't vote it very high. I guess I just use Photoshop too much because an image like that never impresses me. The first thing that came into my mind when I saw it was "oh, there's some smudge tool and dodging/burning."
I don't disagree with his win because it is an appealing piece of art to someone who doesn't pick out the PS right off the bat. However, the Photoshopping done on it is so obvious that it just doesn't trip my trigger. |

This is a valid and good point. I DID use lots of photoshop (more than usual, anyway), and I have to agree that it doesn't quite look natural. I've been experimenting in this area of late for several reasons:
1. After doing lots of research on fine art photography, I found that being a photographer in this area is much more difficult than being a painter or sculptor. People just aren't willing purchase fine art photography as quickly as they are to purchase a watercolor or an oil painting or a bronze statue. Even a few galleries near me replied to me that they don't show photographs in their exhibits very often. So I thought I might try a more 'painterly' approach to photography. For this reason, some of my latest photos have a more 'painterly' feel to them. I really don't care if Photoshop is recognizeable in my photos--in fact, I WANT it to be; I want my artistic hand to show. (I also don't care if I know that a certain oil or watercolor technique is used when looking at a painting--if that's equivalent). I've taken many photos of late that are sitting in iPhoto, waiting for me to 'paint' them! Here are a few photos to which I've applied a 'less-than-photorealistic' feel:
2. I really enjoy this kind of work, and very much admire works by photographers who do this either in Photoshop or in the darkroom such as Brian Kosoff and Robert (and Shana) Parke-Harrison. Parke-Harrison actually paints on the negatives.
3. Photorealism is a wonderful thing, but as we all know:
humans = 2 eyes, 2 ears, at least 3 or 4 other senses (taste, touch, emotions, smell, seeing dead people, etc.)
Camera = 1 eye
When I took my photo of the Wellsville mountains, I was using all of these senses when I took the image. I could smell the mountain air, feel the cool breeze on my skin, and the way the sun came through the clouds certainly had an emotional impact on me. The camera caught the scene; I used Photoshop to try to give a hint at the rest. So in a way, I think my finished photo is more 'real' than the original.
My 2 ยข

I think the winning image is a classic shot in the F64 group style.

By-the-way, not all of David's entries of late were "Photoshoppy" (is that a real word?).
He got 4th place in "Magazine Covers" with this shot:
Pretty much straight out of the camera, straight-forward shot. I think it's good for us as photographers to stretch ourselves and try new methods and techniques to make our images appealing. Apparently he was successful in this as most of the voters found it appealing.
Forgive my ignorance Gordon, but what's F64?
Pedro, only I can call him Sweetie.
