Anyone know if Shea security people are likely to prohibit my D200? We're having a surprise 50th anniversary celebration for my in-laws there tomorrow (the "kids" rented a suite) and my hubby wants me to bring the camera, but I'm afraid it won't be allowed in. He wants a family portrait but I certainly don't see bringing in a tripod!

TIA for any advice.

Shea Stadium FAQ

"Are cameras/recording devices permitted?

Small still or digital still cameras are permitted in Shea Stadium. Video cameras are not permitted due to security guidelines."

Looks like the D200 may be a bit big. I would call guest services at the stadium just to make sure.

Yeah, I saw the FAQ and that's why I'm concerned. I'm hoping to find someone who's tried it ;-)

OK well what I do here in AZ when I go to the D-backs game is call guest services. The security guards never have a solid understanding of what is allowed so I get a fax letter and a name of a contact at the stadium so I don't have a problem. The restrictions are different at Chase field as I can take my D200 with my 80-200 attached without issue.

Good luck.

Just about a year ago, I went to a game at Shea and I called ahead of time. They said it'd be fine. I walked in with a camera backpack with a D200, four lenses, and a bunch of other stuff. They inspected the bag (as they do all bags, camera and otherwise), and off I went. With very good results! :)

These two were taken from the upper decks: one with a wide angle and one with extreme telephoto:

And then there were my blur shots:
