one more question, are we taking pictures through a layer, like glass, or through holes in things, like through the hole in a brick? let me know, thanks

Sign me up! I like this shooting thorough something else and seeing what happens. |

Either or...no hard and fast rules here...glass, water, fabric, cardboard tubes, you name it! This is all about experimenting, having fun...and even learning something too. |

As RKT says, there are no rigid rules to these side challenges. It's all experimentation. We learn from what others do in their experimenting - oh yes, and we definitely learn from "newbies" who haven't learned any rules yet and so come up with refreshingly new ideas.
So, Shutter-For-Hire jump in with both feet and enjoy the month. |

I started experimenting yesterday. This is fun. I love how it broadens our mind to new ways of "seeing" things. :~) |

Hi Judi, what did you shoot through to create that pic? (and what does Validated mean?...
sorry I'm still a newbie...) |

I thought the concept was to shoot through a view finder. i.e. line up your shot normally then using a second camera take a picture of the first camera's viewfinder.

As an aside, I thought the comment about the poorly executed selection was kinda funny.
ETA:
Oops....through the viewfinder OR through material. I think the material is supposed to be in front of the lens. Am I reading that right? Or am I reading too much into this?

I might try to give this one a go, too. I usually hibernate through the summer unless the activity contains my two requirements for summer activity: 1. air-conditioning or 2. a swimming pool...this might just get me moving around a bit more. :) |

I did this with my Muffin© soft filter. Every one of these soft filters comes with a free muffin! :)
It was a just the cellophane bag that the muffin came in. I turned it inside out and then attached it to the lens using an elastic. Not spectacular but I liked the effect.

I did have something in front of the lens. All the little decorations were not added on after the photo!

Some more examples:
Shot through a plastic window:
Through a glass window:
Real TtV:
Through a lace curtain:
Even consider what I will call a partial shoot through:
I find transparency intriguing.
Start posting here in this thread. I don't see the point of creating a new one. Also...it might be a grand idea idea to tell us what you've put between your lens and subject if it's not terribly obvious. And if you don't want to post everyday, not a problem at all. Just have fun, learn, grow...and forget the "rules".

RKT, I just spent some time on this image, and enjoyed the exercise no end.
Thanks for starting this side challenge. I'm looking forward to the journey.
I'll probably post just one image at a time after this, but the process on this was
interesting to me, and might be to others.
setup: .. 1st variation: ... 2nd variation:

Yeah...I thought about that. Something between the lens and the subject. Whether that something is closer to the subject or the lens? Well..either apparently :) |
