Because DPC has made very clear that minimal processing does not do well with the voters -- especially in an advanced editing challenge. :>P

To be clear, I, and I think most other commenters on this thread, do plan to accentuate the point of color with lighting, composition and POV to the extent possible. That doesn't mean that the captured pixels should not be accentuated in post-processing. It doesn't mean we'll need to do it, either, but its certainly a possibility -- I think everyone agrees that we shouldn't be using PS to "create" the point of color; the discussion here seems to be more about enhancement and presentation.

Not really... you'd pretty much have to be trying to achieve selective desat to cause a problem IMO.

That makes it a whole lot clearer to me, and is kind of what I suspected, but did not state as succintly as you. Thanks.

If you're that worried about something, don't do it. If your normal workflow involves selective desaturation, then I suggest you try something different. You're still welcome to shoot in Minimal.

OK, why not just work with that as your official rewritten special rule?

Keep in mind, Bear. I understand that Shannon's charming wit is sometimes ill-placed, but your quarrel is not with him, it's with Langdon. On a more funny note, not one single other SC member has jumped in to help Shannon ... which, of course ... is hilarious. Like when you pick a fight in a bar, start getting your a** kicked, and your buddies don't jump in to help cuz they think its funny.

I think that Scalvert has had the very short end of the stick here. He has made his point which to him is black and white, whereas to others it is grey with a pop of colour that will be DQ'd.

I think that with him even suggestion that this should have been a miniumal challenge to Landon, he knew the shit was going to hit the fan.

This challenge is a nightmare for us and it is going to be for them too

I've found it quite delightful. Shot for the challenge this evening. My processing is as follows: levels, curves (overall, no channels selected), crop, duplicate layer with high pass filter on overlay, flattened, new layer with dark circular gradient, stretched to cover just the edges and applied with soft light blending mode (it's how I do vignettes, and vignettes seem to be the "in" thing so I'm trying to fit in), and some very light dodging but not affecting the point of color, and really wasn't necessary, but I feel compelled to dodge and/or burn since again, it's the "in" thing. Sound like a reasonable approach?

Same here.

Have I mentioned, however, that I suspect the score will be in the 5.2-5.6 range? :-)

LOL!! Thanks, Shannon. Gotta appreciate the vote of confidence there. On the plus side, at least I haven't uploaded it yet, so I know you're just going on past history, not the specific case in point. Get it? Case in point??

Hey, you never know... my current entry was at 5.8 with nearly 30 votes, and now it's north of 6.5. Weird. :-/

Yeah, I don't suffer from those fates. Normally it starts at 5.0, rises to 5.8 and gives me hope, then plummets nicely. But hey, that's cool.

And I've submitted if you'd like to use your superpowers to read the entry (the description is far more entertaining than the shot itself), as long as you promise not to vote or DQ it. :-)

Well I have entered point of Color with a mediocre shot that makes me smile. This is my first challenge entry since Cowboy. I miss the update button :-)

I decided it was too good to pass up. I paid for one month membership, and have thrown in an entry to Point Of Color. Wish me luck.

Good luck! And same to you, Barbara!

I might actually enter this one too. EEEK. I haven't been entering much lately. I have submitted a few times, then UNsubmitted a few minutes before rollover because I know the shots won't do well. I have one in free study - not scoring as high as I'd hoped, but at leaset it's above my average. Can't wait to shoot something for this.

Hopefully I'll get a BRILLIANT, ribbon winning idea.

pfffffft.

Its good to see that the members are back on their meds and are actually out shooting some pics :)
Y'all will pardon my attitude about this desat thing, but it didn't seem that much of an obstacle if you thought about your subject and background.
Shot six different subjects this morning, including the red tail light on my silver Bimmer.

So can I just clarify, How big is a point? What percentage of the photo classes as a point? At what percentage does it become a dot, or heaven forbid, a spot?

/runs away giggling...

I'm still using PhotoImpact. Haven't seen a reason yet to change.

It's been interesting to read through the concerns about pp.

My initial concern with this challenge was with the definition of "point" and that doesn't seem to worry anyone else! Is a point a small circle (like a 1000 points of light) or is it a triangle (like the point of a pencil)?
