Is the shot for an advance editing challenge? If not post it so we can help.

I've used it a bit in PS Elements so I do not know what differences there might be in regular PS. You definitely want to select the area of the image that you want to change, if you do not and the color you want to replace is elsewhere in the image, it will change there. The process fasinates me. Trouble with it is that your sky will have many different hues of that need to be changed and you have decided to either change it to mostly the same color or to different ones. I tend to use it only in DA shots because it leaves the area changed looking too painterly like and not natural. When you choose one color in the selected area to replace you can add other colors to it to leave the background a consistent color. If you more hues, click ok and then go back in and change another color. It also seems to me that the saturation does not have a lot of effect on the change, you see more change using hue and then lighten/darken.
Sorry for the babble....hope it helps a little.

I can adjust the colors in the swatch but it is covering the whole pic vs. just the background. What am i missing...hmm

Make a separate layer for the background and it should effect only that area.

If you feel like shelling out a few extra bucks, here's a PS plugin that's does a great job of colour replacement:

Or ColorSwap. (BTW, additional plug-ins like this are not legal for Basic Editing challenges.)

I know it doesn't help much, but the color replace tool in Photoshop PS is excellent for just this job, as is the 'color replace' filters
