I am worried now for my entry. These seem more sharp to me than anything. To me high contrast is like extreme differences say like B/W like glad said, and t hat includes colors
the photos I saw are like... extreme sharps...
at least to me anyways
Edit
well most of them anyways

May I suggest that voter regularity will be much improved if voters follow a high-fibre diet. |

So, is it high contrast or high-key (as described in the photographer's ( gwe21) own comments)? Or both? Would it be presumptuous to consider all high-key as also high contrast? Some high-key is a bit flatter (less contrasty) isn't it? |

To me this photograph is not high contrast
i would need to see a clear difference between blacks and whites and less grays, it just looks like another b/w photo to me with pronounced blacks, thats all
Edit
This is what i consider high contrast
I would give this image a 7/8
as opposed to a 5 on the original

I'd say it's both. Here's my take on it:
High-Key = most of the image is bright (filling up the right side of the histogram)
Low-Key = most of the image is dark (filling up the left side of the histogram)
High Contrast = large difference in value between lights and darks, typically adjacent lights and darks
Low Contrast = small difference in value between lights and darks, typically adjacent lights and darks
Possible combinations:
High-Key/High Contrast
High-Key/Low Contrast
Low-Key/High Contrast
Low-Key/Low Contrast
One can certainly create a High Contrast image that is neither High- nor Low-Key as well. |

the voters will vote as the voters will vote-
its all opinion in the end-
I'm contemplating entering just to see where an image i toss in will fall among the 'opinions' |

Figured I'd better throw that in there to help avoid the inevitable misunderstanding. :) |

Maybe I misunderstand the contrast, because the blue ribbon 'broom vendor' seems to be mostly the same tones. I see the contrast between the beard and the skin, and the brooms and the background. but is that necessarily high contrast? and the red ribbon in that same challenge seems mostly grey tones, not a lot of black to white seperation....
??

I had a chemistry shot in mind but I kinda blew my one "make a mess" card already this week. My fiancee still wants to use my guts for garters...

But what if high contrast doesn't mean just contrast between tones? Like Mrs. Innocent and Mr. Devil. |

I am excited about this...it is my first challenge.
I am not sure how well my photo will do, but I probably wouldn't have ever thought about taking that kind of shot without seeing some of the work on this site first. |
