I will be in Dallas the weekend of the 17th of May for my neice's wedding. I will have one day to see the sights. Does anyone have any recommendations of what to see? I plan on seeing the JFK museum but other than that, I don't know.

Depends on what you like. For a strong local flavor, and lots of Western themed photography, I suggest the Fort Worth Stockyards.

If you will be at the JFK Memorial, you will be in the West End area of Dallas. Lots of cool things to see within a short distance. Will get a list together for you and post back.

The actual wedding is going to be in McKinney, Texas. My sister lives in Longview but her daughter lives in the Dallas area that's why the wedding is in McKinney. My sister is not REAL familiar with the Dallas area so that's why I'm asking for this help. My daughter and I will be sightseeing with my sister on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. Our flight back to Detroit leaves at 4:00pm on Monday the 18th.

BTW: The Fort Worth Stock yards look really cool.

Here are a couple of ideas as well.
Dallas attractions

There is SO much to do and see. You might even want to hit a Frisco Rough Riders baseball game that night...Double A affiliate of the Rangers, but the stadium will blow your mind!! Quite the experience.

Let me know if I can be of more help. I'll keep looking.
FYI - no stockyards after dark.

I asked the same question not too long ago in this thread.

While in Dallas, I went with a colleague of mine across the Trinity River and was able to safely shoot the skyline. :-)

We also shot at Fair Park in Dallas (site of the World's Fair in the mid-1930s). In Fort Worth, I went to the Fort Worth Stockyards and captured some images.

Also, in the Dallas area, I photographed the Las Colinas Mustangs--horse statues. You may have seen my Free Study entry which was based off of this image:

Here are the rest of my Dallas/Ft. Worth photographs.

By the way, I have geo-tagged my photos, so you can see exactly where I was standing when I took those photos. Just click on "Map" on the bottom right of each photo's page.

Thanks everyone for the help. I will keep checking back for more posts but this definitely gives me some web reading to do. I'm really looking forward to this but I just wish I had more time. Isn't that always the case?

BergieKat, my nephew used to live in Frisco for a while but he moved to Dallas and is now working on the oil rigs out in the gulf. Fortunately, he'll be home for his sisters wedding.

Having a great time in Texas. Saw the JFK site. The wedding in McKinney was very nice. It was at the Lavender Tea room in Mckinney. Today, we are going to the Rangers/Astros game. Needless to say I will take many pictures. Maybe Deep Ellum area tonight. Possibly FW tomorrow.

Enjoy your whirlwind tour and post some pics afterwards!

Well, Iâm back from my whirlwind tour of the Dallas area. I had a great time. The wedding was perfect and I had the chance to see relatives that I donât get the chance to see very often. I wish I would have had more time but you know how that goes.

We did make it to the âSixth Floor Museumâ in Dallas. It was a very sobering experience. My daughter, who is only 25 years old, had some tears running down her cheeks and I said to her, âWhat do you think?â and she said âWowâ.

We did get the chance to make it to a Rangers games against the Astros. The Rangers lost 5-4 but it was a good game. Lots of action.

I also got a shot of the Cowboyâs new stadium from the ball park. From what I understand, a lot of fans are upset at the new prices for tickets.

Our next excursion was to Fort Worth and I figured while I was there, I wanted a big ole steak dinner. Well, we found the right place and the dinner was great. Really neat local atmosphere.

[thumb]680344[/thumb]

After dinner, we cruised around the stockyards area.

And of course, what would a trip to the stockyard area be without visiting Billy Bobâs.

[thumb]680351[/thumb]

I would sure hate to pay their electric bill.

[thumb]680354[/thumb]

Couldnât miss the bull ring.

[thumb]680352[/thumb] [thumb]680357[/thumb]

On Monday before we left for the airport, we visited Grapevine, Texas. Very neat little town but the 96 degrees was a tad warm for me.

[thumb]680358[/thumb]

I was so thrilled when I got back to Michigan and the temperature was 60. Now thatâs the way summer should be.

All in all, it was a great time and I would like to come back when I have more time to see things and maybe even look up some DPC members. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

Glad you enjoyed the trip. Believe it or not, I probably drove past the infamous "grassy knoll" hundreds of times before I knew exactly where it was.
