"Your assignment, Mr./Ms. (Hunt-for-Name,) should you choose to accept it, is to boldly state a positive value/belief about this life (or any other for that matter) that you consider to be True & Proven by whatever measuring stick that you personally hold to be true! The Mission Impossible is to do so without using the Quote Button or without attacking any other individual's beliefs...AND...without accusing them for attacking any of yours simply because he or she stated their own value/belief boldly! Violation of #1 Quote Button, #2 Attacking Beliefs, #3 Accusation of Being Attacked will kill your credibility, and obtain for you 'Social Demerits' (which, of course, are only as potent as the value they are given by each individual heart.) This message will self-destruct in five seconds!"
"...And ALL the people said, AMEN!'"
---------------------------------------------------------------
"These are a few of my favorite things..." Thank You, Julie! That was lovely! :)
1. You already know that my Top Two Beliefs are "Rule #1 - 'Jesus is always right!' Rule #2 - "When Jesus appears to be wrong, See Rule #1!"
(This has been stated merely as a foundation stone/recap of "This is where I am coming from and you know it!" This is MY BELIEF,...End of line! This is not for the purpose of restarting a discussion of religious matters, nor is it an exclusion of said since this is "THE good word" for much of the world's population who believe that there is (at least) one god, even if we can't agree on who or what he/she is.)
2. More than that I believe that Photography has a very important purpose in the world today! For better or for worse, we are becoming a global economy and "photography + internet = improved communication across language barriers."
3. The sun is the focus of the system of planets in which we live, but it is not the center of the universe. (That is a positive value to me because understanding Truth about any subject helps me to understand myself better and how I fit into the Big Picture of Life, even if "the way I live that out" is less-than-widely accepted.)
4. Math is important to me because in every addition, subtraction, multiplication, and dividision equation, there is always one right answer (and only one right answer!) (Even when re-expressed in a different denominator, 1=2/2 or 3/3 or 4/4, etc. "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet!")
5. Music is an important part of my life because it helps me to focus, to equate/differentiate principles/perspectives/geometric designs, and to think clearly, even though such a premise has been oft debated. (I certainly am a strong believer in the beneficial aspects of mental developement that come to prenatal humans, especially through the music of Mozart. I played Mozart for my little girl, and she is brilliant, even though similar is the perspective of many fathers. My parents played classic music for me when I was small...for whatever good it did!)
6. I believe that fresh-water fish always function best and survive in fresh water, and likewise salt-water fish in salt-water. (This underscores my belief that all humans, too, function and survive best when they live according to creation...which explains my beliefs and actions more thoroughly than philosophy every could.)
7. I believe that poetry is often the best form of communication because it requires the reader to "slow-down," meditate over, and think intellectually, not emotionally about another's thoughts/values/beliefs! (Therefore, I may at times write prose as I am doing now...because the safe-guards and structure of this thread are very specifically "spelled-out", but when such "checks & balances" are not in place to prevent undue/unwarranted/unfriendly assumptions, then I will always revert to poetry, especially when emotions are strong.)

As a parent of three children, two of whom have autism, I have had the opportunity to learn some things about life that may be a little outside most people's experience.
1. "I love you" is different than "You make me happy." Love requires commitment - even when things are not fun.
2. Things are not always as they appear to be.
3. Once you understand, it all makes sense.
4. Behavior is communication.
5. Normal is relative.
6. Beauty is not in the eye of the beholder, but exists continually and rather indifferently to our opinion. But when we notice it, it enriches our lives. (One of the reasons I take pictures - it is my way of noticing beauty, and trying to share it with others.)
7. There is a right way and a wrong way to try to get mashed potatoes off the ceiling. Sometimes leaving a situation alone is your best course of action. (In case you're wondering... The mashed potatoes are not still on the ceiling. After they dry, they are easy to pop off without destroying it.)
8. We make many assumptions based on our experience, which may or may not be valid for others' experiences.
9. This world and our existence is much more complex than we believe. Our lives are a precious and precarious balance that works so well, we are oblivious to the wonder of it.
10. When my son hugged a stranger unexpectedly, most people did not respond negatively. When he took french fries (his favorite food) from their plate, most people did not get upset. People disapprove of what they consider bad behavior, but are generally accepting once they understand the situation. And most people are willing to try to understand the situation.
11. God loves my children more than I do. He certainly understands them better than I do. I do not know why they are the way they are. And God knows there are times when they certainly are not convenient or easy. But I know I am a better and richer person for having them in my life. When you hear a child that did not speak until about age 7 say "I love you Daddy" it is a precious miracle.
12. Our lives are filled with miracles. All we need to do is notice them.

So, If jesus Were Here Right Now And he Said That christianity Was A Load Of Crap, You Wouldn't Believe him, Right? Or Would You? You Probably Would Think That This Falls Into The Rule#2 Mindset And Go Back To Rule#1 Therefore Making His Statement True That christianity Is A Load Of Crap. |

I love the mountains.
I love the clear blue skies.
I love big bridges.
I love when great whites fly.
I love the whole world,
And all its sights and sounds.
Boom de ah dah, boom de ah dah, boom de ah dah, boom de ah dah.
I love the oceans.
I love real dirty things.
I love to go fast.
I love Egyptian kings.
I love the whole world,
And all its craziness.
Boom de ah dah, boom de ah dah, boom de ah dah, boom de ah dah.
I love tornadoes.
I love arachnids.
I love hot magma.
I love the giant squids.
I love the whole world,
It's such a brilliant place.
Boom de ah dah, boom de ah dah, boom de ah dah, boom de ah dah.
{The world is just awesome.}

definitely not the point of the thread, this is not a rant thread, this is a posting of good things about this world, if you don't agree with the op, then don't post on the thread.

this is a ridiculous hypothetical statement. saying things like this does nothing for anyone. its like the old question "If God can do anything, can God create something he cannot destroy?". Does it matter?

One simple rule.
Treat people how you want to be treated.
I don't want people to tailgate me or cut me off in traffic, so i don't do it to other people.
If I were stuck in the mud on the side of the road in a rain/snow storm i'd like it if someone stopped to help, so i will.
Too many people are hypocrites. They expect everyone else to be better people then themselves. |

If only those who understood this rule to be paramount would put it into practice universally. |

Hey, Buddy, I hope you're sitting down because I am actually going to agree with you this time. If Jesus was walking the Earth today as a man, He would say that Christianity is a far cry from the Truth of Who He is. We would both loathe what "Christianity" has become, and we would discuss how to correct the damage created by the embracing of this world's ideas, and the loosing from the moorings of the principles of His Person.
Today's Christianity is too much religion and too little Christ. Enlightenment comes from coming to the One Who is Light. :)

The 'good' word IMHO is that it's good to be alive, we humans are generally curious creatures who enjoy life as best as we can. I am optimistic that those qualities along with our knowledge, continually increasing via logic, reason, and the scientific method among other things, will continue to make life more enjoyable and interesting for countless generations to come.
My other favorite 'good' word is that no one needs to fear death thanks to some very sound reasoning by Epicurus over 2 millenia ago...
Why should I fear death? If I am, death is not. If death is, I am not. Why should I fear that which cannot exist when I do?
- Epicurus (philosopher), c. 341-270 BCE
Many other good things as mentioned by some others (photography, skiing, music... etc, etc) but it all boils down to how good it is to be alive for me. |

"Violation of #1 Quote Button,...will kill your credibility, and obtain for you 'Social Demerits'..." (Quoted from the original post)
Well, there I go. My first post back after a two-week break was a procedural mistake. I could feel badly about that, but I think I'll just laugh and say, "Dudesy, you are still the same ol' imperfect sinner you've always been." How good it is to know that my level of perfection has no effect on Jesus' level of Perfection.
The positive element that I see in this association is the blessing of not needing to be perfect to be considered acceptable. Even though it is often "lost in translation," I do see acceptability of person in every individual who posts to any of my threads. (Accepting the person of another does not necessarily require the acceptance of all the beliefs and actions of that person.)
We are who we are. We are not what we do. What we do indicates the internal emotional/mental/spiritual health of the person we are. (That's the reason I took a break. I would like to thank Shutterpuppy, Karmat & SC for "tough friendship" in bringing it to my attention.)
Here is the corresponding Positive Thought. Everyone needs a friend, a "sounding-board," a mentor. Some of us admittedly need these more than others do.
"Hugging a porcupine make be uncomfortable at first, but since quills are retractable, the comfort of hugs can improve." :} (blink blink) Jay O'Toole :)

The things I love about the world.
It's still here even though we screw around with it too much
The night sky, so you can look and see impossible dreams and endless thoughts
Being able to hear and see my children sing and dance and play in mud puddles
Knowing that for every evil person I come across, there are 10 people that are good
Knowing that we choose what to do with our lives, whether we belive that or not
Good will always supass evil, even when it looks like evil will win
KNowing that I can pick up the phone and call another country and see things I never imagined via the WWW
The innocence of children
The beliveing mind of children (IE Tooth Fairy and the fact that they think I am only 22)
Seeing through the eyes of children at little things that are junk but are treasures to them (IE our dirt collection)
Knowing that I can make someones day a brighter place, by just smiling, opening a door and listening
Be yourself and treat everyone as though they are family, and hope that they do the same
and I have to say, I am thankfull to DPC, becuase in the short time I have been here, I have become a better photographer, a better listner, and a more thoughtful person and knowledgable.
