My poor doggie broke his leg in 3 places (actually it's two toes and the main bone in the leg) trying to chase a rabbit! This actually happened Friday night, at the time we thought it was just sprained. We couldn't find anywhere to take him over the weekend and called the regular vet on Monday. Their x-ray machine was broken and we had to wait till Tuesday night to get him in. The vet said it should heal just fine though he will be in a cast for about 6 weeks. The upside is he's getting doggie percocet!

Dr. Rippie at Pennsauken Animal Hospital. He's such a sweet guy!

I'm just surprised you couldn't find anyone open on Saturday - Cherry Hill AH on rte 70 and Garden State AH on Haddonfield Rd are both open on Saturdays. Good people, have used them and worked for them - two Drs. from CHAH bought the Garden State one from previous owners and set up a new practice.

But if you have a "sweet" vet keep him :) - they're hard to come by in VA...all I've encountered here are hard-sell guilt-tripping types. If you don't want to pay for the machine that goes "ping" you must not love your pet enough.

OK, let me rephrase just a tad... lol. I couldn't find one that would fit money wise into what I could afford to put out. It was mid afternoon on Saturday before I started calling around (because we didn't take it that seriously at first). I just don't have $400/$500 laying around. Total cost where I went was $168, which is a big time bargain compared to what was wanted for an emergency weekend visit anywhere else. So we're eating boxed mac & cheese and hot dogs all this week to cover this.

I hear you. The "emergency" visit charges are killer. :) Seems like my pets ALWAYS picked a Saturday or Sunday to get sick. The fridge always dies on the Fourth of July, too...plumbing breaks on Thanksgiving...etc.

ROFL! It so funny you said that! My fridge gave out on the 4th of July one year and we weren't home at the time. It was so stinking hot all my food went bad really quickly. As I was cleaning out the fridge to trash it, a container of bad food spilled on the floor. My pug rushed in and slurped it up! It poisoned him really quickly and he started convulsing. Of course it was a weekend! We had to drive to an after hours emergency vet somewhere in Berlin. They gave him a shot of something, kept him overnight. I had to pick him up the next morning and transfer him to my own vet because no one is there during the day. When I picked him up they recommended I have him put to sleep. I cried all the way to my vets with him. My vet was furious that they suggested putting him to sleep. To make a long story short, the overnight visit cost $850, the next two day he was in the regular animal hospital was $200. Total cost $1050 for the vet and $500 for a new fridge. This was about 6 years ago.

The veterinary hospital at the University of Pennsylvania is open 24/7. It's an amazing place as far as what medical care they can provide but it's also scary ($).

Yes, they are good...

We used to have a 24/7 one in Clementon (NJ), but it closed down, or switched over to regular hours, can't remember which. Now HUP is the only emergency facility to go to in that area.

Lordy, Kelli, talk about everything piling up all at once! And I too had a fridge go on July 4 - when I am feeling especially conspiracy-minded, I imagine they are rigged that way. :)

Maybe it was Clementon I went to (I know it was that area) but at the time they were nights and weekends only, no daytime hours. I don't even remember what they were called, only what I paid. LOL! The one that I did get an answer from this weekend was either Marlton or Mt. Laurel (my memory really stinks!), but it was an M town.

Maybe it was Medford. :)

LOL!

eta: I went and looked at my convoluted scratch pad where I have a million names and numbers written. It was Animal Emergency Service of NJ in Mt. Laurel.

Well I'm doing my best to stir up trouble on a Rant thread I started, about not being able to change your vote once it's cast...I know I've been there before but I'm back at it again...

Kelli, glad to see your heart's in the right place...doggie gets big vet bill, you and co eat mac&cheese for a week...Lily getting spayed this week, YAYYYY!!!! But yeah some $$ there too, I'll likely eat vegetablearian for the rest of the month...

My Cowboy score and everyone else's seem to be plummeting the 3rd day in a row now.

May all trolls step in fresh manure while wearing their best shoes.

This week has been heck-ish here.

Mom's memorial stone was put up last weekend, which also would have been her and my Dad's 11th wedding anniversary.
Bear had a stomach bug Tues it seemed.
Pugsley has had a stomach issue since Wednesday, though it's starting to settle.
Boo woke up in the middle of the night Wednesday night with an asthma attach.
Thursday we melted a block in our fuse panel.
Then my Boo spent Thursday night, all day Friday with my in-laws. I'm not so good at letting my kid be away from home yet.

Today has been uneventful thankfully.

kashi, I hope things continue to improve for you. :)

Well, I am in for the suckcess challenge. I figured I had to since it had suck in it. ;)

Greetings from Kuwait, Suckers. With luck, I'll head back to Germany late today. Winds are still quite nasty, though.

Susan, I'm one of those voters who does change my vote - I do a first pass, then revisit. I do not, however, ever lower a vote. I only bump up, not down, so I figure in the long run that's a good thing, yes? :-) I often comment on my second pass as well.

I am sorry I have been missing from you all here lately..... I do read the threads, but not always in the right moods for making a comment.

I have been away visiting for five day recently to see our two grandsons. One is only 10 weeks, and we hadn't seen him until our visit. The other is now 16 months, and you would never guess he got up and walked two hours after we left. We did see him take a few steps while there.

I still haven't posted any photos as I have quite a few. I will post a couple when I get the chance.

Happy Dad's Day, to all that this applies.
I hope the winds whisk our Deb home safely.
Susan, I too am one who votes the first pass and then goes back and comments and ups some votes in the second pass. I guess my brain just needs a second pass to sort things out. Often times it is just about a half dozen that I bump up. And there is the occassion when I actually bump up on a third pass.

A shout out, in particular, to those on Team Out of Focusers and Team Hoovers:

I ask for your cooperation and patience over the next week - with the last month, planning a vacation and then actually going on it, I got seriously behind in sending out ballots for OOBIE awards. I've got now 4 ballots lined up to send out, not including the 5th one coming up as scheduled on Sunday, and nearly every one of them is slated to go out to either one or both of the OOFers or Hoovers teams. I'm going to pace it out 1 every other day or so over the next week, so you are not inundated by the ballots all at once, but I'd greatly appreciate it if you would take the time to vote on each one.

And if you guys promise to stop "winning" the voting privilege each week, I'll promise not to get so far behind again. :-D [joke, joke]

Thanks guys!

I'm about to send out another ballot, so I figured the above bears repeating... OOFers and Hoovers are the voters slated for the next 4 ballots - ribbon hogs!! ;)

ditto, me, as to voting - like Deb and Jeanne, I always bump up, never down.

I also come back to comment, and on the second pass bump a few up. I'm pretty sure I've never bumped anything down ever.

OH ... I forgot to share my exciting news with everyone.
I'm participating in a charity bike ride next month ... I was signed up to offer support to the bikers.
At the kick-off meeting I was asked by the video guy if I'd consider being his assistant. I immediately said "sure, BUT I never have really done any video work". His response was ... I've seen your pics and that's all I really need.
YEAH!!
And I'll, hopefully, get to see my three Vermont DPC buddies to boot. All's good!
