Actually, if you think about it, the only thing you know for sure is that a GIF is in raish's portfolio. And just because someone says "DNMC, 1" does not mean that you actually received a score of 1. I could run around and leave posts that say "Bravo! 10" and leave you a score of 2.

Maybe it's just time to relax. I really don't see how someone leaving a comment is low class.

Think this over a little more. A dozen threads on the topic this morning, SC locked all but this one, So indeed they are aware of this, They would also be aware if he actually voted a 1 for everyone. The fact is he didn't vote at all, He will probably vote when he has to go through and change all the comments. You haven't been violated, But you have been fooled. So all his efforts didn't fail him completely.

Your image is protected. Not one single person viewing, and/or voting will see the comment and score. It will have absolutely no effect on how your image will be commented or scored.

Exactly how would it call into question the integrity of voting????? If the person actually voted a 1 on all the images his vote will *AUTOMATICALLY* be scrubbed from contributing to the results. I would call this a *VALIDATION* of the efforts made to *ENSURE* voting integrity.

Well, I hope this is true! The removal of this stuff is what I expect... removal of the vote, the comment and a suspension of the violator. A comment of assurance from the SC would be appreciated. As of now, it creates an issue of reduced trust and lack of confidence in reining in this kind of behavior. Again, I'm confident in the SC. And, this is not a life and death issue. I'm happy! I'm having a great day. It's just that this low class "stuff" is something we should not be forced to endure, or even look at.

It is definately him. Read page 3 of the thread it will explain how to find out for yourself if you still have doubt. Also if you look in the Weathered Old Suck League Barn thread You can see that He was called out in there earlier this morning I guess he did it last year as well.

Oh that's right... I did read that. I forgot how you guys went about to figure it out lol

I just can't believe he's crazy enough to do it again. And now I've had two different comments from him - will he really go back and do a 3rd?

LOL! Was it painful when the surgeons totally removed your sense of humour?

Whoa! Is it possible to comment w/o casting a vote. I haven't figured out how to do that. (Maybe I've simply missed the "how to" on this technique. It wouldn't be the first time.) Maybe someone can fill me in on this. Otherwise, if someone says they voted a "1", I take them at their word. (I suppose this is a very naive thing, too.)

No problem with any of this. I'm just a little surprised there is so much support for voting pranks. Sorry, I'm out to photograph for the balance of the day.

edited to add: Okay, I see one can comment and pass on voting just by clicking through. Guess it never occurred to me to scroll through the images that way.

Quite simple. Type your comment and hit the arrow keys at either end of the voting scale. I do it all the time.

I "bumped" this old thread from last year this morning...

How Can This Be? (Free Study DNMC)

...wondered if it was him or not.

Ahhhh, yes it was him last year as well..

so not only a crap gag the first time around, but he recycled it a second time..

I went into my freestudy last year and remembered that the person had to go back and recomment on all the entries.. here is what he wrote on my entry last year

"Right then, joke's on me as I now have to plough through 564 images and bump them all (yes, all of them) up. There'll be a third run through for fine tuning. It's day two three now and I'm running late, sorry.

New take on what's rapidly becoming an old motive. Great with the monochrome bringing out the textures. Architectonic contrast, clouds . . . has to be 8"

SOH is all relative, some people think others on here are really funny, others think they themselves are super-funny.... ;-)

Others just look at them in the same way one would look at a particularly difficult child..

For example, Most North Americans have no sense of Irony, they just think its a kind of metal, like coppery and bronzy..

Maybe this had something to do with the recent poll? DNMC comments sure do get people in a tizzy quick around here! ;)

Relax ppl it's all good you know the S.C. will take care of the problem.

Let's say there's a parking lot with 501 cars. A vandal buys 42 cartons of raw eggs and smashes one egg on each of the cars. Pretty funny, huh! Unfortunately, the police catch the vandal in the act. Do they join in the fun with a hearty laugh? Do they require the vandal to clean up the mess? And, finally, is this a "forgive and forget" incident because it's April Fool's Day? My car was in the parking lot. And, feels like it's been vandalized.

It's virtual vandalism Richard. The windshields clean themselves in just a few hours.
The police (SC), if they didn't do it themselves, are probably in on the joke. So sit back, enjoy life. You might get a blue ribbon this time. It could lower your blood pressure and extend your life. Life is mysterious and obscure, not transparent.

Well said. And if this follows the pattern of last year, a real comment will be left later. Considering how people complain about lack of comments, this is a good thing.

I would say, if he is not giving 1's with the comment but just making a comment... well you could argue if it's a good joke or not, but it's just a joke.

But if 1's are given with the comment - even if they are changed later (or not changed, and scrubbed) - to me it goes against the rule:
"You may not vote in a manner that suggests an intent to disrupt the voting system."
But the 1's would be changed, so it's not going against the rule if the rule really means, you may not cast your final vote in a manner.. etc.
And if the rule really means that maybe it should be revised.
(I'd hope the rule didn't mean that, really, but that's my personal take on it.)

Anyway, I don't want to come across as not enjoying the joke - I didn't get uptight about it this year or last year. However, there is a rule, and maybe this is a good chance for us to clarify what the rule actually means.

edit for clarity

When does a vote become a vote? I would say at the end of the voting period. I tend to use a placeholder vote for the better images and then come back and bump. Certainly when the voting period is over I've only cast one vote.

But I do agree about the "final vote" clarification.

Wow this joke's reaction has gotten out of hand I find.

Quoting rules to complain about a joke is kind of weird in this adult setting, don't ya think?

Why not laugh it off and go on doing what you were doing a second ago?

Congrats to the joker. I truly enjoyed reading all the comments about this special day at DPC.

Can't wait for next year's.

Maybe it will be funny next year! The crime here is lack of humor. And, it's not adult behavior. Who cares. It's symptomatic of general decline, not something which should be celebrated as "brilliant".
04/01/2008 06:47:51 PM · #98
Thanks for implying I'm not handling this in an adult way.

I think I'm actually being VERY adult about it, personally.
I wasn't bothered by the joke (and don't, by the way, need to "laugh off" something I wasn't bothered by in the first place).
But some people ARE bothered, and I want to consider their feelings.

That's how an adult should be, right?

In my post, I said a lot of maybes and ifs. Just suggesting something - simply putting out food for thought.
Not condemming anybody. Not getting upset.

That's adult.

Can't top that!!! Now, that's funny! So, by inference, the site council has created a "straw man" for an April Fool's "joke"? (I'd like to laugh, too! Guess I'm too stupid to understand.)
