I will doing a fair amount of work with a 4x5 view camera this month using a digital back which, as far as I can tell, does not record date nor exposure information. The question is, may I consider these images for use as submissions?

Unfortunately not. The rules have this notice at the bottom:

To avoid the possibility of disqualification be sure to check that the date and time on your camera are set correctly before taking any pictures you may use as challenge entries. We will no longer accept this an excuse. You have been forewarned.

That being said, there is nothing stopping you from submitting the photo, but if proof is requested it would be disqualified.

This also rules out the possibility of the sony mavica and older cams that don't record exif data winning challenges.

You could always just stick a newspaper in the scene - the resolution should be high enough to read the date on a large format back, but will be too small to see on a 640x480 resize. You can email eddy the 132Mb Tiff for verification...

If the site is going to depend on EXIF data to validate photos, there really needs to be some sort of announcement to this effect. In the beginning, when it was the honor system, everyone with any type of digital camera could participate. I assume that some of those are still participating.

Thanks all. Guess I'll start a newspaper coming and upgrade my email account for 132Mb attachments. ;)

What about a photograph of the setup using a camera that does record exif info??

Alternately, a program like Exifer or other similar program can be used to add exif info to an image file. Though you would have to use it with some skill to avoid detection.

For right now this sounds like the most practical suggestion.

Can we get this verified as an option by the SC or Admins BEFORE someone gets DQ'ed?

Probably not -- it could take anywhere from a day to a week or two before everyone has a chance to see and "discuss" the issue in an SC forum. The only "shortcut" would be an email directly to the admins -- use the Help > Contact menu item.
